Families of Incoming Students
Welcome to the John Cabot community! From the very first moment your student arrives in Rome, he or she will be beginning an unforgettable, transformative academic experience of a lifetime. We are here to help them succeed during their time at JCU—so your whole family can enjoy the experience as well as the outcomes.
The Orientation Team cannot wait to help your student begin their journey in Rome! Beginning with our airport pick-up service and continuing throughout the entire orientation, dedicated staff and student leaders organize campus and city tours, conduct workshops on useful topics life safety, and introduce students to JCU services and policies.
Prior to arrival, incoming students should complete all of the required steps on the Orientation platform, including uploading documents and viewing presentations.
Please be sure to respect the designated arrival dates. If your student cannot arrive on time, they should notify us by writing to [email protected].
All incoming students are assigned a specific date on which they should arrive for orientation and housing move in. On the move-in date(s), for students staying with JCU Housing, the university arranges a shuttle service from Rome-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) Terminal 3 to their assigned accommodation between 9am and 7pm.
Students will receive their housing assignment and apartment address upon arrival and check-in. The housing payment must be received in full before students can receive the keys to their apartment. If you plan on accompanying your son or daughter to Rome, please note that overnight guests are not allowed to stay in JCU housing.
The JCU Admissions Office will guide you and your student through the study visa process. All non-European Union citizens must obtain a student visa and permit to stay for the fall or spring semesters, and citizens of certain countries must also obtain a study visa for our summer sessions.
Once students have their visas and arrive in Rome, our Immigration Services Office assists them through the process of applying for their Permit to Stay, providing them with the resources to obtain official student status in Italy.
Italian law requires that all non-Italian students living in Italy have medical insurance, whether they need a Permit to Stay or not. John Cabot University works with Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) to assist you in obtaining a high-quality health insurance that will fulfill your immigration requirements.
FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, is a federal law that pertains to the release of and access to educational records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the US Department of Education.
FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children’s education records. These rights are transferred to the student when he/she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high-school level.
John Cabot University may not release directory information contained in a student's education records, on the basis of Italian legislative decree n. 196 dated 30 June 2003.
