Emma Van Dyke is a Communications major and an Entrepreneurship minor from Virginia. She has an eclectic extracurricular background in dancing and teaching snowboarding. At JCU, she is the president of STAND.
Skyla is a Malawian-South African senior student majoring in Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies. At JCU, she is the president of the Black and African Student Association (BASA), which has several events in store for Black History Month in February.
Danah Alkhafaji is an Arab American alumna who graduated from JCU in 2024 with a BA in Humanistic Studies and a minor in Philosophy. While she was a student at JCU, Danah founded the Arab Student Association (ASA).
Thao Nguyen, originally from Vietnam, spent the Fall 2024 semester at JCU as a study abroad student from the American University in Washington D.C. She is a double major in Entertainment Business and Music, and she wants to become a professional music composer.
Giorgia is a Communications major and Digital Media Art and Production minor from Rome. In Fall 2024, she was an intern at JCU’s Web Communications Office. She is also an Orientation Leader and contributor for The Matthew.
Desiree Prieto Groft has studied abroad in Rome at JCU multiple times in the past. She now teaches literature and writing at Arizona State University. Her first novel Girl, Unemployed is forthcoming in spring 2025.
Aleksandra is pursuing a degree in Art History and she’s the President of the JCU Art History Society. She also runs a TikTok channel, The Art Report, where she discusses all things art.
Originally hailing from India, Harman Singh grew up in the States. He is an International Affairs major, the Vice President of Student Government, and President of the International Relations Society (IRS). With him, we talked about the importance of diplomacy and cooperation that goes beyond our borders.
Martina is originally from Bulgaria, but she grew up in Lebanon. She is now studying for her BA with a major in International Affairs and a minor in Legal Studies. She is co-founder of the Arab Student Association and is the Vice President of the Women’s Leadership Initiative.
Max grew up between Seattle, Washington and New Jersey and he’s pursuing a double major in Communications and History. He is the Film Appreciation Club Vice president, Student Government social media manager, and Communications department representative.
Raised between LA and Rome, Leonardo is an International Business major and a Marketing minor. Because of his passion for movies and the open discussions they offer, he is the President of the Film Appreciation Club.
Sufiyan, originally from Karachi, Pakistan, is pursuing a double major in International Affairs and Psychology. A writer and a poet, he is the president of the Literature and Creative Writing Club, and the secretary of the Arab Student Association.

Malkie Dyman graduated from JCU in 2022 with a B.A. in Political Science, and a Minor in Humanistic Studies. She completed her Master’s in Fashion Management and Luxury Business at Rome Business School and spent a year studying at Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem.

Studio Art Professor James Gardner has recently been appointed Chair of the new Art and Design Department at JCU. In 2018, Professor Gardner was named one of London’s Apollo magazine’s “40 under 40 in the Art World.” He has been working at JCU since 2019, and he will be teaching Introduction to Printmaking, Painting, Foundation in 3D Art and Design, and Experimental Drawing in Fall 2022.
John Cabot University student Miguel Avides is from Porto, Portugal. An International Affairs major and Psychology minor, he will be the Vice President of the JCU Queer Alliance starting in Fall 2021.
