During the first two weeks of classes, John Cabot University hosted three traditional events to kick off the new academic year for clubs and organizations: the traditional Welcome Aperitivo for Club Leaders and Advisors, the Club Leader Team Building Training, and the Student Life Fair, all organized by the Student Engagement Office.

The Welcome Aperitivo, held on September 3, was a social event for new and returning club leaders and advisors. President Franco Pavoncello delivered a speech highlighting the significance of club leadership and his gratitude towards JCU clubs and organizations. Student Government President Sebastian Terrazas and Vice President Natasha Kisila were also present to support the incoming leaders. The evening provided a relaxed atmosphere for networking and connection-building, setting the tone for a collaborative and energetic year ahead.

In her welcoming remarks, Associate Dean of Student Engagement Pilar Murguia underscored the vital role student leaders play. Our club leaders are the heart of our campus community, fostering connections, inclusivity, and vibrant student experiences that transcend the classroom,” said Murguia. “Lead with clarity. Lead with empathy. And above all, lead with integrity,” she advised students.

On Saturday, September 6, nearly 100 club leaders gathered in the Aula Magna Regina at the Guarini Campus for intensive team-building training held by an external company specialized in professional development. Unlike traditional sessions, this unique workshop involved a musical activity, with each club leader picking up a percussion instrument. Students connected by creating a symphony together, communicating not through words but by listening to each other's rhythms. This drumming experience taught them to express themselves and communicate in different ways, reinforcing key leadership qualities such as active listening, effective collaboration, and unity.

The traditional Student Life Fair was held on September 11 and counted 475 participants. Every semester, all students, faculty, and staff are invited to discover the wide range of clubs and organizations, along with other opportunities for involvement both on and off campus, like JCU’s Cultural Programs, Performing Arts, Community Service, Student Leadership Programs, Career Services, and Sustainability initiatives.

All club leaders were present to share their missions, upcoming events, and future initiatives. The Fair is the perfect chance to explore, engage, and become one of JCU’s future leaders. Attendees also had the chance to connect directly with these dynamic groups, subscribe to their mailing lists, and participate in interactive quizzes for a chance to receive personalized gadgets and snacks.

These events marked a promising start to the 2025/2026 academic year. This Fall, 111 student leaders serve on the boards of 19 active clubs, representing the diverse and dynamic student body driving campus involvement. The Student Engagement Office proudly supports this vibrant community of leaders, covering interests from cultural and academic to service and recreational activities.
