John Cabot’s Arab Student Association, which is open to all students, aims to create a sense of community for Arabs, Muslims, and all those interested in the Arab world. ASA’s pillars of community, collaboration, and culture are foundational in our club initiatives and efforts. We are constantly working towards cultivating a venue for cultural expression within the diverse community of JCU. Not only do we focus on the representation of Arabs/Muslims in the diaspora, but we are also passionate about the importance of connection between various cultures, religions, and general identity markers.
ASA is interested in promoting the traditions and values of the rich culture that the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) have to offer. Whether it is a matter of breaking bread with the student body, introducing students to the Arabic language, or holding events relating to common holidays such as Eid, we hold an unwavering passion to promote the MENA region.
Moreover, ASA also seeks to educate the community on various topics relating to the region. This is done primarily through our Instagram, @asajohncabot, where we continually strive to highlight diverse voices from the Arab world. Ranging from musicians to activists, we believe in the power of giving a platform to underrepresented trailblazers of our region, especially through social media. We also work to expand on a diverse array of media from the region, from music to book recommendations, we are passionate about sharing what we love!
Above all, the Arab Student Association constantly works towards creating an environment founded on diversity, inclusivity, and tolerance. As ASA seeks to educate the community, we also aim to learn from those around us. Thus, our pillars of community and collaboration are fundamental to us. Members of ASA strive to be open-minded and welcoming above all else.

At the John Cabot Board Game Club we strive to create an inclusive environment where students can gather to play games. We recognize that it can sometimes be difficult or intimidating for students to create their own communities as they adjust to living in a new country or joining a new school. It is because of this that we hope to create a safe place for students who feel alienated or out of place as they begin their time at JCU. In this space students can connect with their peers, develop a strategic mindset, and retreat from daily stressors by engaging in ludic activities.
The Board Game Club is open to anyone who wishes to join.
Core Principles:
We seek to further engage in a competitive spirit by partaking in organized tournaments of various genres of board games. Meetings will attempt to bring together JCU students and provide them with a safe place to engage with each other and to provide a sanctuary from the stresses of student life.
We have weekly board game nights every Thursday on campus from 6-9 pm. Anyone can drop in at any time and stay for as long as they’d like. These game nights serve as an opportunity to build community and engage with students of all backgrounds and majors.
We would love for you to join us at the Board Game Club. If you would like to join us or are looking for more information please email us at [email protected] or find us on Instagram @jcuromeboardgameclub.
The JCU Business Society is a student-run organization aiming to create a community of students who work together as a team to learn how to conduct business matters hands-on. The Business Society will provide students with a variety of opportunities to utilize the skills they learn in the classroom. We want to stimulate students to think beyond the individual functions of a business and to understand the strategies that lead to sustained success over time. We prepare our members to enter the business world by involving them in projects, activities, and trips, which are essential in terms of organization and knowledge.
The Business Society also cooperates and connects with many organizations to create events and activities with multiple partners. These include the HULT Undergraduate Investment Group, the Grassroots Environmental Club, the Climate Countdown Committee, Enactus, the Institute for Entrepreneurship, the Black and African Student Association, the Asian Cultural Club, the Fashion Club, EDHEC Business School, and the Tuscany Environmental Foundation.
To provide JCU students with new academic, professional, and social opportunities.
To educate members on business topics by keeping them updated on the ongoing events in the business world and allowing them to reflect on these events with fellow members.
To promote communication and networking among students, faculty, and alumni by connecting each group to the necessary resources that they are seeking.
To provide members with greater exposure to the world of business through guest speaker forums, club fundraisers, community service projects, and trips to leading companies.
The Business Society strives to create an organization where all members are equally able to contribute to meetings and activities. To accomplish this, the board members will aim to restore the inclusive nature on which the club was founded on. Our goal for the upcoming year is to involve as many members as possible in the activities we plan on hosting. Students will benefit from this experience by making connections and expanding their business network.
The main challenge the Business Society faces is to bring its members’ participation to a new level. The main obstacle we must overcome is getting all the members to our in-person meetings. We are aware of the scheduling conflicts that many students face. Therefore, we have decided to cut down our club meetings from once a week to once every two weeks, with a duration of 45 minutes to one hour.
We want our members to be able to learn from one another, and we will work tirelessly with our advisor to organize several workshop days that can be useful for future businessmen and businesswomen of the world. We are also going to provide a special opportunity for the society’s members by going on trips.
The Business Society is becoming an increasingly international environment and an important organization within the University. We hope to have new faces and people motivated to join the Business Society.

The Film Appreciation Club is a gathering place for film lovers here at John Cabot University. Through our weekly meetings, we provide a space for students of all cultures and backgrounds to connect over their shared passion and admiration for film. This group encourages conversations about the deeper meanings we find in films as well as their social, cultural, and political effects.
Curiosity, learning and expression are encouraged in this group through asking questions, provoking discussions and sharing the emotions that arise through each film. In our meetings we discuss a chosen film each week as well as other forms of media which we consume throughout our time at John Cabot.
This environment is a unique experience that has provided community, support and understanding for its students since its establishment in 2022. United by our shared interest, we aspire to cultivate a safe space for students to share their thoughts, ideas and creativity. The Film Appreciation Club also presents opportunities to further our knowledge and perceptions of films in their entirety through club collaborations and participative events around the university.
To broaden our unique experiences in this club, we collaborate frequently with other clubs in order to diversify our discussions and dive deeper into our understandings of culture, media and our shared humanity.
If you are looking for a creative space to take part in, our club is here for you!
The Film, Media, and Communication Society offers a vibrant space for students who are passionate about media arts, providing them with an environment where they can freely express their creative ideas. This society is designed to foster creativity and innovation among its members, supported by the dedicated faculty of Communication and Media Studies. With their guidance, students can develop their concepts into tangible projects, working collaboratively with peers to bring their visions to life.
The society hosts a variety of events that are essential to its mission. One of the key components of these events is the inclusion of guest speakers, who bring a variety of experience and insight from various sectors of the media industry. These speakers offer valuable perspectives on current trends, industry challenges, and future directions in media, which can inspire and inform students as they navigate their own creative journeys.
In addition to hosting guest speakers, the Film, Media, and Communication Society organizes a series of workshops that provide hands-on learning opportunities. These workshops cover a broad range of topics, from technical skills related to media production to broader discussions about media theory and practice. By participating in these workshops, students gain practical experience and enhance their understanding of the media landscape.
Overall, the Film, Media, and Communication Society is more than just a platform for creative expression; it is a dynamic community where students can engage in meaningful discussions, build professional networks, and collaborate on exciting projects. Through its various initiatives, the society plays a crucial role in shaping the future of media arts and equipping students with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in this ever-evolving field.
Students can contact us through our email address at [email protected]. We are eager to create new and exciting projects together such as short films and music videos. Our hope is that through these activities we can highlight diverse perspectives and foster a sense of unity and pride in our shared experiences.
Grassroots, founded in 2013, is the environmental club at John Cabot University. The name itself reflects both our connection to the Earth, as well as our ground-up approach to tackling environmental issues. We consider ourselves to be imbued with a special sense of community. We feel it is our individual responsibility to promote the knowledge and respect of the environment as the very foundation of our collective future. It is important that we respect life on Earth and our social and economic wellbeing as a whole. The change begins with us and with everyone who decides to stand up and change the world for the better, one person and one act at a time. Our motto is “Be the Change.”
If our message and sense of community resonates with you, we invite you to join us! Remember, it all begins with you. Let's "Be the Change," for there is no planet B.
Biweekly Meetings
These meetings provide an opportunity for members to come together and discuss environmental issues. It’s a great way to stay informed and engaged in the club’s activities.
Weekly Cleanups of Rome
Grassroots collaborates with the Office of Community Service to organize weekly cleanups in Trastevere. These scheduled cleanups take place on Fridays in the morning. Participating in these cleanups is a hands-on way to contribute to the local community and make a positive impact on the environment.
Clothing Donation Drive
We believe in the value of second-hand clothing as a sustainable practice. We collect clothes on specific days in the semester, sanitize them, and display them in the Lemon Tree Courtyard. This initiative promotes sustainable fashion and raises awareness about the environmental impact of clothing consumption.

We aim to build a community for JCU students to engage with their peers both socially and academically. We host bi-weekly meetings to cultivate connections among students, and to discuss an extensive array of historical topics. To promote community and conversation, we:
We host a diverse mixture of events to create an accessible, friendly community which boosts relations between those interested in the humanities. We are a group of students who came together, through our love of politics, in the fall of 2014 and decided to start this project. The Society seeks to examine what is going on in the world through academic discussions and informal conversations that include all members of the JCU community. We take advantage of the multicultural backgrounds of the students in our university to enrich our own opinion regarding current events. The topics are controversial, and there may be no single truth. Each member of the club has the opportunity to enhance his or her own thinking by talking and discussing and by weighing his or her views against the views of others in a friendly environment.
For more information join us on Facebook or send us an email at [email protected].

It is our imperative to create a fun, inclusive, and stimulating atmosphere, where JCU students of all majors share their love of literature, and improve their own reading and writing at literary readings, symposia, colloquia, conferences, discussion and conversation that transgress disciplines and reach out to the global community.
The goals and plans of the Literature and Creative Writing Club are:

The Psychology Society (PsS) is an organization that fosters students’ interest in expanding their knowledge of psychological science and associated fields. We collaborate closely with the Department of Psychological and Social Sciences (DPSS) to promote our field of study and improve the experience of all JCU students. We explore how psychology and social sciences can help create a better society, where we can fight against injustices and prejudice, by raising awareness about current-day issues.
The Psychology Society aims to create a stable network between psychology students and between psychology students and their professors, contributing to strengthening connections within the department. Through a series of activities, including lectures and discussion panels, the Psychology Society aims to create a space for students and professors to examine recent scientific research, share research ideas, discuss current psychological matters, and collaborate in an open learning environment, furthering classroom knowledge. However, to join, you do not need previous knowledge of psychology or social sciences!
Guest lectures: The Society’s lecture series hosts JCU professors or experts from other international institutions who engage in conversation with students and answer questions about their research and field of study. These events, organized in collaboration with the DPSS, allow students to learn about different psychological issues and topics, and also provide excellent networking opportunities.
Awareness events: These events are aimed at fostering conversation and raising awareness about topics not often openly discussed because of stigma. Some examples include neurodiversity, gender identity, limitations of diagnostic categories for mental disorders, and many more. By giving space to these conversations, we hope to promote a more inclusive environment at JCU, where students feel comfortable asking uncomfortable questions.
Career opportunities events: This series of events is aimed at helping students find their own career path. Professors, alumni, and professionals are invited to discuss the different paths one can take after graduating with a BA in Psychological Science. Through these events, we hope to provide additional guidance to the students and show them the possibilities that the future holds for them.
The Queer Alliance is a JCU student club founded by members of the student body who identify as either LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) or straight. Its goal is to foster a supportive academic, professional, and personal, environment for both degree-seeking and study-abroad students while attending JCU and living in Rome. The Alliance is open to all students at John Cabot University.
The Alliance purposes to assist students, regardless of sexual identification, in bridging the gap between each other as well as the University through maintaining respect, engaging in active dialogue, seeking commonality, and participating in community service.
As a club, our students are dedicated to the three pillars that make our foundation:
Building Community: The Alliance builds community by engaging students in various activities, events, and regular meetings. The club embraces the idea that interpersonal interaction is essential in the establishment of an open, accepting, and inclusive environment on campus that allows for the free expression of ideas and dialogue.
Understanding: The Alliance serves as a forum for discussion and reflection through education and awareness of issues related to LGBTQIA+ people.
Support: The Alliance recognizes the need for safe spaces in which to share thoughts confidentially. The club strives to ensure an open-door policy for discussion, to identify safe spaces, and to provide both University and outside resources that can aid students in feeling supported during their time at JCU and in Rome.

STAND is a student-led international NGO founded in 2004 to fight genocide in Darfur, Sudan, from which the acronym STAND (Students Taking Action- Darfur) originates. In 2011, our Rome-based independent organization has extended its mission to various humanitarian aid issues, focusing on improving the lives of refugees and migrants in our community. STAND is open to all students at John Cabot University.
The goal of STAND is to raise awareness of human rights violations and social issues both in Rome, where it is based, and around the world. In order to do so, STAND organizes talks to raise awareness on contemporary issues and social inclusion, as well as volunteering at different centers. We continue to do what we have always done: advocate for marginalized groups and raise funds for individuals in need.
Each semester, STAND organizes different activities and volunteering opportunities, both on its own and in collaboration with the Office of Community Service. The purpose of these activities is to raise awareness on social issues and to offer help to those in need within the community.
Book Fundraiser
Each semester, during the first week of class, STAND holds the book fundraiser. Students at John Cabot University can get their books for classes by donating the money to the communities STAND works strictly in contact with.
Novel Fundraiser
The novel fundraiser has a similar concept to the book fundraiser. The main difference? Students can get novels instead of academic books, and the money is still donated to the local communities.
Talks
Each semester STAND organizes several talks with professors or people who work in the humanitarian field to inform STAND members about human rights issues.
Paint Night
The paint night is an event in which STAND holds a paint class, either through a step-by-step video or with the help of a special guest. STAND provides all the materials for the night, and the students participating will be able to donate the money required to sign up to an organization that STAND works with.
Donations
At the end of each semester, John Cabot’s students can find donation boxes all around campus. What do we do with them? We collect the books that students no longer use so that we can then provide them at the book and novel fundraiser!
The Joel Nafuma Refugee Center is a day center for refugees and asylum seekers to relax, learn, and receive advice in order to achieve their goals. Each week on Fridays a member of the board of STAND brings a group of volunteers from John Cabot to the center. The students who volunteer interact with the guests and organize recreational activities with them.
Vo.Re.Co offers a vast array of services including psychological and legal counseling services, breakfast and dinner delivery to the less fortunate, and provides temporary shelter to underprivileged fathers who have children hospitalized at Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù. STAND also sponsors the dinner at the organization, which is then distributed by volunteers of John Cabot University.
Tuttoblue Arte e Sociale is a lay voluntary association dedicated to helping disadvantaged people in Rome. STAND provides funds for the breakfast volunteering activities organized twice a week by the Office of Community Service.

Here at Student Government, we are students advocating for other students. Our mission is to make John Cabot an enjoyable, thoughtful learning environment, where people can express their ideas and opinions freely. We take our roles as your representatives seriously, and guarantee that we will address any issues issues which are important for students as well as those that are of concern to them, ensuring a safe and inclusive university for all.
We also focus on bridging the gap between student, faculty, and administration members, as most of our projects converge with the university’s administrative and academic bodies.
We understand many of the students here are far away from home for the first time, and we strive to make JCU feel like a home away from home. A place where meaningful experiences can be had, and joyful memories can be made.
Student Government is a great way to take an active role in real change at the university. If you have a passion for advocating on behalf of student rights, or creating strong academic and social initiatives, Student Government is the place for you.
We work alongside fellow student organizations, leaders, and peers to see where help is needed, and ensure you have the best experience possible.
If you have any concerns, complaints, questions, or ideas you feel need to be addressed, you can contact us at [email protected]. You can also follow us on our Instagram (@jcu_studentgovernment) and Facebook (JCU Student Government) where we make regular updates on university events, projects, community life, and much more.

The Studio Art and Design Club engages with the production aspects of the arts, including creating and educating its members in order to enhance their experience of art at John Cabot University. It shall be the purpose of the Studio Art and Design Club to create an artistic space for all to express themselves.
We seek to advance knowledge of, and insights to, the possibilities of creation with different artistic mediums, and stylistic approaches. To these ends, we explore the artistic culture of art and design in a broad range of activities: student-led workshops, exhibitions, public lectures and events; as well as collaborations with artists not only in the JCU community, but with artists in the Rome area.
Our association with the Department of Studio Arts provides a framework for developing lasting academic, professional, and creative opportunities and abilities.

The Women's Leadership Initiative is open to all students at John Cabot University.
Women’s influence makes a difference in the world. Female empowerment and leadership are proven to reduce poverty, benefit the environment, and boost the economy. However, women are still subjected to discrimination, unfair differences in pay, and limited opportunities to take on leadership roles. In fact, the World Economic Forum predicts that it will take over 135 years to reach gender equality.
The Women’s Leadership acknowledges these obstacles and works with students, faculty, alumni, and the professional world to promote gender equity and create a safe and enriching space for women in the community.
The three pillars of the Women’s Leadership Initiative are:
Advocacy: The club strives to increase awareness of gender inequities, advocate for underprivileged women and other marginalized genders, and enable everyone to develop a better understanding of how to support women.
Connection: In the Women’s Leadership Initiative, we understand that equality will not be achieved by uplifting one woman, but all women and genders. Thus, we strive to connect with other Women’s Leadership Initiatives, networks, and organizations to share resources and support one another.
Professional Development: The club will also provide opportunities for students to develop skills necessary for quality leadership. Members will have access to expanded networks with alumni leaders, workshops, and panels with guests from a variety of international professional sectors.
WLI is beneficial in creating awareness, connection, and opportunity for all students. If our organization and mission resonate with you, please contact [email protected].
