On March 6, 2026, students from the MA in International Affairs program and undergraduate programs at John Cabot University participated in a company visit to the UNDP Rome Centre, organized by JCU’s Center for Career Services.

During the visit, students were introduced to the history and mission of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as well as the specific role of the Rome Centre for Climate and Energy. Inaugurated in 2019, the UNDP Rome Centre has become an important hub for international collaboration on climate and energy issues. The Centre serves as a key global platform for the strategic partnership between the Government of Italy and UNDP, contributing expertise on climate, energy, and environmental priorities with a particular focus on the Italian context.

Students attended a presentation on current trends in climate finance, energy transition, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence, and learned about several initiatives coordinated by the Rome Centre. Among these was Youth4Climate, which supports youth-led and youth-inclusive solutions to environmental and climate challenges through financial support and capacity development.

They were also introduced to PISTA (Platform for Investment Support and Technical Assistance), an initiative designed to identify projects that help developing economies advance their decarbonization efforts and transition toward climate-resilient economies by mobilizing national and international finance.

International Affairs student Sara Di Lalla reflected on the experience: "Hearing directly from professionals helped deepen my understanding of the SDGs and how global strategies translate into concrete local actions aimed at ensuring that no one is left behind."

The visit also included a discussion on career pathways within UNDP and the broader UN system. Professionals from the Rome Centre shared insights into their work and explained the various entry points available for students and young professionals, including volunteer opportunities, internships, and early-career programs.

Another International Affairs student, Vanessa, shared her perspective: "Beyond the programs themselves, what stood out most was the chance to speak directly with UNDP employees, interns, and volunteers about their personal journeys. Hearing how they built careers around their advocacies gave me valuable insight into the many pathways within the UN system."

Through company visits and other initiatives, the JCU Center for Career Services aims to connect students with leading organizations and professionals across sectors, offering valuable exposure to real work environments and career paths. Experiences like these help students bridge academic learning with professional practice while building networks that can support their future careers.
