Secchia Scholars Program

The Secchia Family Foundation's Secchia Scholars program awards partial tuition scholarships each year to qualifying students.

Secchia Scholarships are awarded for one semester or one year (semester recipients may reapply for a second semester award). Recipients are limited to one type of "Secchia Scholarship" per semester.

Secchia Scholarships

There are five types of Secchia Scholarships available to Master's, Undergraduate and Study Abroad students applying to JCU. Please see below for details. 

Thanks to generosity of Ambassador and Mrs. Peter Secchia in memory of Mrs. Secchia's late father, Mr. Norman Peterson, NIAF offers to undergraduate and graduate degree seeking students two scholarships of $5,000 each year. The recipient classifies as a "Secchia Scholar" and may qualify for an additional 15% discount off tuition fees.

This scholarship is open to you if you meet the following criteria:

  • Italian-American, U.S. based student
  • Originally from the Midwest
  • GPA requirement of 3.5
  • Have an active NIAF membership

Recipients are selected by the National Italian-American Foundation.

The application for the 2023-2024 NIAF Scholarship will close March 1, 2024.

Up to five Secchia Scholar II Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate degree seeking and study abroad students every year for the amount of $3,500 during a regular semester and $1,500 during a summer session. The recipient classifies as a "Secchia Scholar", and qualifies for an additional 15% discount off tuition fees.

This scholarship is open to you if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a resident of and voter in Western Michigan.
  • You are a student at JCU majoring in Business Administration or International Affairs.

Study abroad applicants must have declared one of the following majors at their home institution as their field of study: accounting, business administration, economics, managerial science (all areas), mathematics, computer science, engineering or fields of study related to business and/or economics.

Don Lubbers Scholarship at GVSU

This specific Secchia Scholar II Scholarship is dedicated exclusively to an undergraduate student from Grand Valley State University applying to John Cabot University as a degree-seeking student or as a study abroad student attending for one semester.

Application deadlines for the Secchia Scholar II Scholarship:

  • Summer sessions - April 15
  • Fall sessions - June 15
  • Spring sessions - October 15

The UFP Inc. awards annually two scholarships for the amount of $10,000 (for two semesters) – to undergraduate degree seeking and study abroad students. Recipients may also be eligible for a 15% reduction of the current JCU tuition fee.

This scholarship is open to you if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a family members of Universal Forest Products employees who have a minimum of 12 months' seniority. Children (biological or legally adopted) of full-time UFP employees (including those of any wholly owned subsidiary).
  • You must be under age 25 and have completed a minimum of one year of education at a two- or four-year college or university in the United States.

Note: Children of UFP Officers may apply but will not be considered for scholarship selection if there are more applicants than scholarships available.

Application deadlines for the UFP Scholarship

  • Fall sessions - June 1
  • Spring sessions - November 15
  • Summer sessions - March 1

The OSIA Foundation awards every semester scholarships for the amount of $5,000 to Italian-American study abroad students studying at JCU for one semester (including summer sessions) or one academic year.

The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, financial need, and your desire to further your knowledge of Italian heritage. Preference will be given to students who live or study in the Midwest. The recipient classifies as a "Secchia Scholar", and may qualify for an additional 15% discount off tuition fees.

The scholarships are funded by the Ambassador Peter F. Secchia Family Foundation, and recipients are selected by the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, 219 E Street NE, Washington, D.C. 20002, USA.

The application deadline for the 2023-2024 OSIA Scholarship is March 15, 2024.

This scholarship funded by the Economic Club of Grand Rapids was established in 2000 to provide scholarships to qualifying study abroad students from Western Michigan. The award amount is up to $2,000 annually.
