Based on your 2026-27 FAFSA Application we have determined your Federal Student Loan Eligibility as listed on the JCU Financial Aid Portal under My FA.
Depending on your eligibility you may be eligible for the following types of Federal Student Loans:
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan
This loan is based on financial need, as determined by the FAFSA application. The government will pay the interest on this loan while the student is in school. The Origination Fee for Loans disbursed before Oct 1, 2026 is 1.057%, the Interest Rate for the 2026-27 academic year is 6.52%.
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan
Students are eligible to borrow Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans regardless of financial need but will have to pay all interest charges. The Origination Fee for Loans disbursed before Oct 1, 2026 is 1.057%, the Interest Rate for the 2026-27 academic year is 6.52%.
Federal Direct PLUS Loan (Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students)
Parents of dependent students can borrow a Federal Direct PLUS Loan to help pay for their child’s education. Please note that a credit check is required for Parent PLUS loans borrowers that may limit or disqualify the amount listed.The Origination Fee for PLUS Loans disbursed before Oct 1, 2026 is 4.228%, the Interest Rate for the 2026-27 academic year is 9.07%.
*This is a percentage of your loan amount charged by the lender for the processing of your loan. The amount disbursed to you will be slightly lower than the amount you accept.
Federal Aid Regulations → No Pell Grants
Current US government legislation prohibits US citizens enrolled in universities outside the United States from receiving Pell Grants, FSEOG, Perkins Loans, or Federal Work Study funds, even though you may be eligible for such assistance.
Are you receiving external scholarships?
If you know you will be receiving any external financial aid resources, such as external scholarships/grants, not listed in this Financial Aid Package, you must report each resource and the amount of the resource to the JCU Office of Financial Aid.
Are you transferring credits to JCU?
Submit your official transcripts for a transfer credit evaluation.
JCU Billing Policy
Students receiving US Federal Loans, Private loans or Veteran Education Benefits will be billed in USD regardless of citizenship status.
Cancel Loan Request
If you would like to cancel your loan request at anytime before or after the disbursement please contact the JCU Office of Financial Aid at [email protected].

Once you accept loans, we will review your request and assign you any additional steps to complete. You can review the steps under the “Documents” tab – Missing Documents.

For some documents you will be required to complete online applications, and for others you will be required to fill out form(s) and upload it to the portal.
To borrow Federal Student Loans the student must complete and upload to the portal the 2026-27 Federal Loan Authorizations Form, which is to be completed every academic year.
To borrow Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans the student must complete, by logging into www.studentaid.gov with their FSA ID, the items listed below:

Once we have reviewed your request for Federal Student Loans, we will send you a “Financial Aid Visa Letter” which may be requested by the Italian consulate/Italian Immigration to demonstrate funds that you will receive while studying at JCU to obtain your visa/permit to stay.
Once all the steps above are complete your payment deadline (except for the deposits) will be automatically postponed to the date of disbursement for the loan amounts you requested.
Once your loans are originated, we will email you a Federal Loan Confirmation which will include the date of disbursement of the loans you requested.
