On November 21, 2025, John Cabot University’s Center for Career Services organized a company visit to the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome. FAO operates across more than 130 nations, coordinating efforts to build sustainable food systems. Alongside other UN agencies based in Rome, it stands as a hub of expertise and international collaboration in the field.

Students were welcomed by FAO’s Communication Officer Ange Tambineza, who introduced them to the organization’s history and mission. The visit began at the notorious entrance wall displaying FAO’s six official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) and its Member States. Tambineza emphasized the institution’s commitment to inclusivity, highlighting how every nationality and cultural identity is valued equally within the FAO community.
“One of the most compelling aspects of the visit was learning how FAO prioritizes the preservation and inclusion of traditional knowledge and practices in its work,” said Vanessa Tsoungui, JCU student. “I was especially impressed by the careful stewardship of the traditional agrifood artifacts displayed throughout the headquarters — each of which has been donated, formally received, and honored through the appropriate cultural customs and blessings. This attention to detail reflects the deep respect FAO upholds for the histories, traditions, and identities of its member states.”
The tour then continued to FAO’s Food and Agriculture Museum & Network (FAO MuNe), an innovative exhibition space that spans 1,300 square meters and includes 12 thematic rooms. FAO MuNe brings together history, research, and interactive learning to narrate the evolution of global food and agriculture. Students explored archival materials, historical documents, rare photographs, and immersive installations that demonstrate how food systems connect people, cultures, and environments worldwide.
“I was blown away by all the research and work that was put into this project,” said student Elena Sirbu. “I could have spent hours in there.”
This company visit is part of JCU Career Services’ ongoing commitment to providing experiential learning opportunities, helping students engage directly with international organizations and develop a deeper understanding of global careers.
