John Cabot University offers a variety of housing options, including the Gianicolo Residence, Lungara Apartments and Trastevere Apartments. All JCU undergraduate housing consists of shared apartments. During the Fall and Spring semesters, additional Neighborhood Apartments become available once the Gianicolo, Lungara, and Trastevere Apartments have reached capacity. These Neighborhood apartments provide the same basic amenities and services as the residences but are managed by a third-party contractor responsible for cleaning and maintenance.
JCU Housing provides Semester-based Housing Contracts for both visiting and degree-seeking students, offering the opportunity to live in all JCU housing options within the Trastevere neighborhood while connecting with new roommates. Degree-seeking students may also apply for an Extended Housing Contract, allowing them to remain in their Neighborhood Apartment from Fall through Spring, including winter break, without the need to relocate between semesters.
No matter the housing option, JCU accommodations offer an authentic Italian living experience, featuring diverse layouts, designs, and locations. Students can list up to three housing preferences on their application; however, final placement depends on availability and the submission date.

The Gianicolo Residence is JCU's apartment-style, academic living community in Trastevere, just a 5-minute walk from the Guarini Campus and a 10-minute walk from the Frohring Campus. The building contains 70 apartments and houses around 255 students. The units vary in size and layout and can accommodate between two and nine students. They are independent-living apartments, which include an equipped kitchen, 1-2 bathrooms, and a common area. It is important to note that the "common area" might not be a separate room (like a living room), rather additional seating space in the kitchen.

Amenities
The Trastevere Apartments are home to about 150 students housed in individual apartments within an easy commute to the JCU Campuses (approximately a 20-25 minute walk or 15 minutes by public transportation). Students will have the benefit of integrating into a building with local Italian neighbors and living in a typical Italian residential area of Rome’s city center.
Apartments vary in size and layout and can accommodate between four and nine students. Larger apartments are divided into two triple bedrooms, one double room and one single room with two full bathrooms, one equipped kitchen (including washing machine), and a living room with a sitting and dining area. The common areas are luminous and feature balconies. It is important to note that the "common area" might not be a separate room (like a living room), rather additional seating space in the kitchen. The furniture and amenities are standard across all JCU Housing.

The Trastevere Apartments are conveniently located on a major connecting road with shops and grocery stores in the Trastevere neighborhood. Easy connection to public transportation including buses, tram line, and the Trastevere train station (with a direct train to Fiumicino International airport).
The building features 24/7 security, including an armed guard as well as entrance gates openable only by a security code, and locked entrance doors. While the building is not owned by JCU, the apartments are managed directly by the Office of Housing and Residential Life.
*A/C and Clothes Dryers are not provided. Heating is restricted to times of operation under Italian regulatory laws; Internet is provided yet service is not guaranteed.
The Lungara Apartments are conveniently located across from one of the University’s campuses and provide a perfect combination of independence and comfort. Situated in close proximity to the University and JCU community, the Lungara Apartments have the benefit of integrating students into a building complex with local Italian neighbors.
The apartments vary in size and layout and can accommodate between three and nine students. Each unit offers modern amenities and furnishings, has a fully equipped kitchen, common area, washing machine and 1 or 2 bathrooms, depending on the apartment size and arrangement. Regular cleaning service is provided, as well as WiFi and heating. At night, the complex is accessible through a code-protected gate and there is a guard on duty.

The Neighborhood Apartments are traditional Roman-style apartments available in the Fall and Spring semesters. These apartments offer the most authentic living experience in the Trastevere and nearby neighborhoods of Rome where next-door neighbors are Italian families.
The Neighborhood Apartments are shared by three to nine JCU students, often grouped together within the same building or areas of the neighborhood. The apartments are located in neighborhoods near the campuses and are accessible by foot or on the city’s public transportation with up to a 30–45-minute commute by bus or tram.
The JCU Housing team supports students living in the Neighborhood Apartments with advice, tips, and information about nearby shops and services. A dedicated JCU staff member is always available to guide students to explore the city of Rome and to help maximize the experience of living and learning at JCU.

The goal of Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) is to provide a welcoming and safe housing option for students that either need or want housing accommodation that is not assigned based on a gender binary. Undergraduate students (18 years and older) of any gender identity can take advantage of this option, provided that they are committed to being a part of an inclusive and respectful environment.
Gender Inclusive Housing is available in Gianicolo Residence, Lungara Residence, Trastevere Apartments, and Neighborhood Apartments. Students can enter up to three housing options on the application as their preferred housing options; however, the actual placement may vary based on the availability and the date of submission.

JCU Housing application is considered complete and is accepted only if both application and deposit are submitted by the deadline. There is limited availability in JCU Housing and at times demand surpasses availability. Once all housing options reach their full capacity, it will be communicated promptly to any applicant that they will be placed on a waiting list even if they applied by the deadline. Housing applications that do not meet the deposit and full payment deadline will be waitlisted. Any submissions after the deadline will not be considered for JCU Housing.
The Semester-Based Housing Contract is designed for students who wish to stay in JCU Housing one semester at a time. To secure housing, students must submit a completed application and deposit by the deadline for their intended semester.
This contract is valid only for the duration of the semester, from the official start to the end date (late August to mid-December), and students are required to move out between semesters. Those who wish to live in JCU Housing for future semesters must reapply and meet all application requirements by the specified deadline.
The Extended Housing Contract is available exclusively to degree-seeking students seeking continuous accommodation in JCU Housing from Fall through Spring (late August–early May) without needing to move between semesters. Students approved for this option remain in the same apartment until the end of the Spring semester. To secure housing, students must submit a completed Fall application along with deposits for both Fall and Spring ($/€2,000) by the Fall application deadline. The remaining Fall balance and the Winter Break housing fee are due by the Fall Full Payment deadline (July 15). The Winter Break housing fee is required to apply for the Extended Housing Contract option. The remaining Spring balance must be paid by the Spring Full Payment deadline (November 30).

Should any spaces become available, the Housing Office will contact students immediately for confirmation and they will be asked to submit a deposit or a full payment, depending on the date of the confirmation. Upon notification of the location and type of housing assigned, students will have the choice to accept or reject the offer within 48 hours from when the notification is sent.
Housing deposit without submitting a housing application by the deadline will not be accepted and will be placed on a waiting list. The complete application must be submitted with a deposit by the deadline (midnight CET) to be fully considered for allocation. The Housing deposit without the submission of a complete application does not guarantee housing.
If students have medical-related requests, they must complete the ‘Health Related Accommodation Needs’ section of the housing application with a medical or supporting document uploaded by the deadline.
Students can update or make changes to their application on the Student Portal before the application deadline (midnight CET). After the deadline, the submitted application will remain available to view only.
The housing application is available online through the JCU Student Portal for enrolled students. It must be fully completed and submitted with a housing deposit by the application deadline for each intended semester, whether applying for Semester-Based Housing or the Extended Housing Contract.
Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) - All applicants must submit a housing application before accessing the roommate requests or applying for the Gender Inclusive Housing option. JCU Gender-Inclusive Housing (GIH) is optional. If students do not complete the GIH online form, placement will be automatically placed in the same gender housing. Both the Online Housing Application and GIH Application must be submitted by the deadline. Any GIH requests after the deadline will not be accepted.
