Dr. Barbara Sveva Magnanelli is Assistant Professor of Accounting and Management at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy. She completed her Bachelor’s in Business and her Master of Science in Business Administration at Luiss Guido Carli University, in Rome, Italy, where she also received her PhD in Management (Accounting major), in 2011. During her PhD, she was a visiting scholar at the University of Tennessee and at HEC Paris. In 2015, she was a visiting researcher at QUT, in Brisbane, Australia.

Prof. Magnanelli has been teaching Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Financial Reporting, Performance Measurement, and Corporate Governance courses for undergraduate and graduate programs since 2009. She also worked as a consultant from 2007 to 2013.

Her main research interests are in corporate governance issues, with particular regard to the board of directors and financial statement frauds. She has also focused her studies on social enterprises and corporate social responsibility. She regularly publishes in academic journals and presents papers at major academic conferences.

She also recently published Corporate Governance and Diversity in Boardrooms. Empirical Insights into the Impact on Firm Performance, co-authored with Luca Pirolo (Palgrave 2021). 

She also co-authored with Mirella Ciaburri, Fortuna Fabio, and Elisa Raoli "Financial Statements Frauds: Does Their Intensity Have a Connection with Earnings Management?" Journal of Modern Accounting and Auditing, vol. 16, p. 291-309 (2020).
