Professor Sergio Scicchitano received a Laurea in Economics (summa cum laude) and a Dottorato di Ricerca in Economics from the University of Rome "La Sapienza," in 1999 and in 2004, respectively.
Professor Scicchitano is an applied economist and Senior Researcher at the National Institute for Public Policies Analysis – INAPP (currently on unpaid leave) in Rome, Italy. He obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification for the role of Associate Professor in Economic Policy, and in 2022 he won the Kuznets Prize. He is the coordinator of the “Italian” group of research and of the “Coronavirus” thematic group of research at the Global Labor Organization (GLO). He is also Section Editor for "Covid-19" in the 2022 Handbook of Labor, Human Resources and Population Economics, Springer eds. Professor Scicchitano is Associate Editor for the Eurasian Economic Review (EAER), ed. Springer and Member of the Editorial Board for Economies and European Scientific Journal (ESJ). He is currently involved in many international research projects.
He was Visiting Lecturer at the Queen Mary University of London, Adjunct Professor of Economics at the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” and at the University of Calabria.
He was the Italian Delegate for G20 “Behavioral Insights Knowledge Exchange Network” and for G7 “Employment Working Group “Investing in Human Capital”.
He served as Senior Economist at the Italian Ministry of Economics and Finance, in the Department of the Treasury, where he was involved in the analysis of labor market in the context of the Italian and international economy, and their surveys, including the relationships with the EU, the OECD and the IMF. He also served as Economist at the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion (previously Department for Development and Cohesion Policies), where he managed negotiated and Institutional relationships with the European Commission. He was involved as Italian national expert in several European Twinning projects funded by EC with Romania (2006), Bulgaria (2007-09), Turkey (2008) and Croatia (2012). He worked as consultant for the London School of Economics (LSE), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Commission (EC).
Professor Scicchitano has taught a broad range of courses. His (undergraduate and postgraduate) teaching interests are in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Applied Economics, Econometrics, and Labor Economics.
Professor Scicchitano is passionate about research and actively engages in it. His interests are in the area of applied economics, labor economics, evaluation of public policies, Covid-19 and labor markets, Sustainable Growth, National and International Income Distribution, Regional and Cohesion Policies, Gender Economics, Human Capital and Technology, Policy Evaluation, Future of Work, Returns of Education. Professor Scicchitano presents research papers at international conferences on a regular basis, and he has co-authored numerous articles published in international peer-reviewed journals such as Acta Oeconomica, Applied Economics, Applied Economics Letters (2), British Journal of Industrial Relations, Economia Politica, Economic Modelling, Economics Bulletin (4), Empirica, Eurasian Business Review, European Research Studies Journal, International Journal of Manpower (2), Italian Economic Journal, Journal of Population Economics (2), Structural Change and Economics Dynamics, Telecommunications Policy, Work Employment and Society.
