Where to Stay and Eat in Rome, Italy

Rome is a paradoxical city. On the one hand it's a busy, chaotic center of international diplomacy and politics; on the other, it's the sum of many intimate neighborhoods, each with its own personality, trattorie and squares.

John Cabot University is located in Trastevere, a charming historic district bustling with couples on scooters, students in cafes and young people strolling the cobbled alleys at dusk. Trastevere is within walking distance of the Vatican, Piazza Navona and the Roman Forum.

Restaurants

Italian cuisine is among the best in the world, and Rome is famous for its traditional foods that rely on the flavors of simple ingredients—farm-fresh tomatoes, intoxicating basil, fresh seafood, and fragrant garlic. From thin cracker crust pizza to famous dishes such as spaghetti all'amatriciana, rigatoni cacio e pepe, and saltimbocca alla romana, you will sample foods that will inspire you to throw as many coins as you can afford into the Trevi Fountain—to ensure your return to Rome. John Cabot University's neighborhood, Trastevere, has a very strong restaurant "scene." The district is filled with pizzerie, trattorie, gelaterie and cafes. Cappuccino is as easy to come by as bottled water as are fresh pastries, gelato, and animated conversation. For dining recommendations, ask JCU students, professors or staff members.
