Orientation at JCU

Our mission is to welcome and support incoming students as they transition into John Cabot University and adapt to life in Rome. Through Orientation, we aim to create a strong sense of community while equipping students with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive academically, socially, and culturally.

Orientation combines engaging educational sessions with interactive activities to foster connection, collaboration, and excitement, setting a positive tone for the semester ahead.

Orientation Week

Orientation is an important step because it leads you to explore and become familiar with the campus and the city of Rome. Connect with new people and build a supportive community, gain a clear understanding of university resources and operations, and access guidance and support for a confident start to your university journey.

Fall 2025

Online Orientation: Opening beginning of July

Arrival dates:

  • August 25: New Degree Seekers, Master students, Freshman Year Programs (Northeastern - N.U.in, Tulane University Freshmen, University of Delaware World Scholars, USC Spring Admit & USC TTP)
  • August 26: All other Visiting Students, GAP Year, ENLUS, Returning Students in JCU Housing

Orientation Week

Activities

Guided by experienced faculty, staff, and peer leaders, Orientation activities will allow you to navigate the university campuses and JCU services, while getting to know your fellow students.

Navigation 101

Go on a small tour of Rome, learn how to use public transport and where to find the closest pharmacy and super market, guided by your peer leader or guided by your peer leader!

Campus Tours

Learn your way around JCU! Visit Frohring Campus, Guarini Campus, classrooms, the fitness center, libraries, and all other JCU office buildings and facilities.

Orientation Checklist

Complete this list of mandatory activities before you can start the semester: clear the Immigration Requirements, get your official JCU ID, and sign all mandatory JCU Forms.

RA Meetings

For all students that are living in JCU Housing, this is a mandatory meeting with your Resident Assistant to go over housing rules, discipline actions and other useful tips about living in JCU housing.

Orientation Leadership Program

Become an Orientation Leader

Each semester the Orientation and the Immigration offices select a group of mature and dedicated students to assist with orientation. Orientation Leaders will serve as peer-mentors for new students, who are making the transition to the University.

Orientation Leaders are full-time, undergraduate and graduate students who are responsible for welcoming and supporting all incoming students by leading a variety of sessions and activities during orientation week.

Work with the Orientation Team!

Roles Include:

  • Orientation Assistants: Guide new students before arrival through emails and video calls and during orientation week through check-in and peer-led activities.
  • Immigration Assistants: Help students navigate Italian immigration requirements.
  • Arrival Assistants: Support students during their first days in Rome.

Program Goals

  • To assist incoming students get familiar with the campus and with the city of Rome;
  • To reinforce expectations, policies, and standards;
  • To encourage community building and engage all students in JCU;
  • To foster active involvement in Student and Academic life at JCU.
