The Women in Leadership Program, organized by JCU’s Center for Career Services, recently took three John Cabot University students for a shadowing experience to Translated, in Rome.

Founded in 1999 by linguist Isabelle Andrieu and computer scientist Marco Trombetti, Translated was created to enable everyone to understand and be understood in their own language. The company has since evolved into a global leader in AI-driven language solutions, with the world's largest network of professional translators and its own AI tool, Lara. Its clients include Airbnb, the European Commission, Asana, and Glovo.

When asked why she decided to join the experience, Humanistic Studies major Lavinia Garwood explained that she was motivated by the opportunity to “meet women working in fields that are traditionally considered male-dominated, such as AI technology.”

The day began with a session led by Co-founder and Chairwoman Isabelle Andrieu, who walked students through the story behind Translated. She shared that the company’s mission is “a culture that values people just as much as innovation.”

Marketing student Sophia Riefenstahl said: “What impressed me the most was the attention given to employees, as well as the company’s welcoming and supportive environment.”

Following the opening session, Chiara Patrizi, people strategy & operations specialist, led the students on a guided tour of Translated's headquarters in Rome. From collaborative workspaces to dedicated wellness areas and team-building rooms, the workplace is intentionally designed to foster creativity, connection, and employee well-being.

The experience continued with two workshops. In the first, students tackled a real-world challenge: how to effectively integrate in-person and remote teams across different time zones and cultural contexts. Reflecting on the activity, Sophia noted: “This exercise brought to light the complexities of communication and inclusion in the global workforce.”

The second workshop, guided by Talent Acquisition & Development Specialist Mariachiara Fornaro, focused on strategies for successful job applications. Through the analysis of resumes, students learned how to tailor their profiles to specific roles and better communicate their strengths.

Communications student Stella Ruggiero shared: “From this experience I learned useful transferable skills, such as leadership and team building, while gaining valuable insights into entrepreneurship and human resources.”
