Interfaith Initiative

Religious life at JCU

John Cabot University is nonsectarian, and Religious Life in our institution strives to enable our community to appreciate, respect, and contribute to its multicultural richness and diversity.

The Office of Religious Life serves as a resource to the entire community of all backgrounds, to help develop knowledge in the areas of religion and spirituality through chaplaincy, inter-group meetings and special events. The Office also serves as an umbrella to the Interfaith Initiative student group.

The Office of Religious Life can:

    • Connect you with a place of worship
    • Connect you to a friendly chaplain
    • Connect you to faith based service opportunities
    • Organize interfaith events

The Interfaith Initiative at John Cabot University was created in order to establish an environment and space for students to engage in interfaith literacy, multicultural appreciation and religious understanding. The initiative draws upon the ideas underlying the Interfaith Youth Core, founded by Eboo Patel, and responds to the 2010 President's Challenge which invited academic institutions to take part in programs reflecting on interfaith communities on campus.

Students at JCU have the unique privilege to interact not only with already diverse American and Italian cultures but with cultures from all around the world. The Interfaith Initiative aims to foster and advance this rich resource of the university and, through it, address religious diversity. In our world today, religion plays a significant role on all levels of society. The goal of the Interfaith Initiative is to involve John Cabot students in establishing an even more mindful and religiously aware student environment through dialogue, critical thinking, respect and understanding, thereby rendering religious and cultural diversity on campus into one of the university's great assets.

The initiative also serves as a reference point for students in need of specific information, resources and contacts regarding religious institutes and services in Rome and also organizes various events and activities with regards to religious pluralism, understanding and awareness.
