Housing and Residential Life

Independent Apartments

"When in Rome..." become a regular at the breakfast bar around the corner, take in the sites on your way to class, find your own path through the narrow cobble-stone streets, and most importantly… do as the Romans do!

When the Gianicolo Residence and the Viale Trastevere Apartments reach capacity, John Cabot University will contract independent apartments through a third-party provider. Independent apartments are traditional Roman-style apartments. JCU Housing takes pride in selecting apartments that provide similar amenities, comparable standards of living, and are located in the Trastevere neighborhood near the main campus area.

The Independent Apartments are shared with three to nine students, often clustered together within the same buildings or area of the neighborhood. The units are all accessible within 20 minutes by public transportation and are no farther than a 40-minute walk to the John Cabot University campus buildings. Living in the Independent Apartments gives students the opportunity to experience a traditional neighborhood with the comfort of an easy commute to campus by public transportation, and the benefit of integrating into a building with local Italian neighbors.

The JCU Housing team supports students living in the Independent apartments with advice, tips, and information about nearby shops and services. Additionally, students are provided with an emergency number that they can call 24/7.

Basic Amenities include:

  • 24/7 emergency On-call number
  • wireless internet*
  • regular cleaning of common areas
  • central or independent heating (No Air-conditioning guaranteed)
  • Washing machine in each unit
  • Starter kit with towels and linens
  • Kitchen equipment (refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, pots and pans, plates, utensils)

*Wireless Internet, though available free-of-charge in all apartments, is not included as a basic standard amenity since local internet providers can be unreliable. John Cabot University does not accept any liability for problems with internet providers and will not intervene in internet maintenance. For academic research, students should utilize the wireless internet services available at Guarini and Tiber Campuses.
