The Professional Gap Year program provides a year of courses and hands-on experience focused on developing professional skills-based learning for the global world of work. The PGY is aimed at students who, during this period, seek a unique mix of professional, academic and real-life experience in an international setting and want to benefit from a reduced financial and academic commitment compared to a regular university academic program. 

Please note that applicants must have EU citizenship or be already in possession of a valid Permit to Stay in Italy. Please also note that students must be at least 18 years old to be able to participate in the professional and volunteering components of the hands-on experience.

Program description

The Professional Gap Year’s unique features are:

Academics -  students take a set of required courses, yielding a total of 18 college credits over the span of two semesters. The program is structured as follows:
FALL SEMESTER: EN 103 Intensive English Composition, BUS 101 Introduction to Business, EXP  1004 Professional Skills for Career Development.
SPRING SEMESTER: EN 110 Advanced Composition, BUS 305 Introduction to Entrepreneurship, COM 101-1 Public Speaking: Oral Rhetoric and Persuasion or CS 110 Computer Office Applications.

Hands-on experience - opportunities include a non-credit professional experience through our Center for Career Services, volunteering in the public or private sector, and participation in an entrepreneurship start-up challenge.

Cost:  $10,500 (U.S. and Canadian citizens) or €8.800 (all other citizenships)

Duration: August 2021 – May 2022

Admission requirements

Online application, secondary school transcripts, one recommendation letter, proof of English at C1 level. Students may certify their level of English through John Cabot’s English language tests.
