The Frohring Library is a unique and highly appreciated learning environment open to all members of the JCU community. Thanks to the generous support of the Paul and Maxine Frohring Foundation, the Library has expanded throughout the years in its location in the Guarini Campus, where it provides access to what is recognized as one of the best academic English language collections in Rome, consisting of print books and journals, videos, and a growing collection of online resources available 24/7.
All library services are strongly user-oriented, and include extended operating hours, weekend openings, and the continued presence of welcoming and knowledgeable professionals ready to assist students and faculty.
The Frohring Library is very active in creating connections locally and at the international level. It works as a bridge to the numerous specialized libraries available in Rome, helping students navigate their services and rich collections.
As an international member of the American Library Association (ALA), and its academic division ACRL, the Frohring Library strives to constantly remain updated on the latest trends in American academic libraries, and to benchmark its resources and performance with peer institutions. The Library is also member of AMICAL, the American International Consortium of Academic Libraries, and has regular relationships with the other 28 American-modeled member institutions located in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
With over 650 thousand print and electronic resources, and numerous scholarly databases, the Forhring Library offers support to JCU academic community. Its user-oriented services include extended hours, weekend access, expert staff support, and interlibrary loans.
The library supports research through JCU Discovery, electronic resources, and research guides. The library staff is available both to help students individually or through workshops, and to partner with faculty for tailored in-class instruction sessions.
The Frohring Library offers a variety of spaces that can accommodate different users needs, including quiet study spaces, private study rooms, and group study spaces, and individual workstations that can be reserved.
ScholarShip is the institutional repository at John Cabot University. It provides an online space designed to archive, organize, preserve, and make accessible the digital scholarship faculty and students produce, showcasing the accomplishments of the University’s scholarly community.
Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni have library privileges and can access the Frohring Library by showing their JCU ID at the Guarini Front Office. Guests are welcome to visit and use the library.
The Library provides different borrowing privileges to its users. Specific policies determine what types of materials users can borrow, and for how long.
To check the circulation record or renew materials online, JCU users can access My Library Account. Detailed information about how to use My Library Account are available in the JCU Discovery Library Account guide.
The general policies apply to all JCU students (degree-seeking and study abroad), the ENLUS students, and all JCU Staff.
Patrons can access all Library services with their JCU ID card. They must always have their ID with them and show it at the Welcome Desk when checking out books.
Books can be checked out at the Welcome Desk.
Patrons can borrow up to 6 books at a time, whether in the Main Collection or in the Reserves. Books in the Main Collection can be checked out for 2 weeks.
Students working on their final thesis can check out up to 15 books for 30 days.
Reserve books may be either in print or in electronic format. Electronic reserves are available directly through the bibliographic record in JCU Discovery, while print reserves must be requested at the Welcome Desk and cannot be taken out of the library (through the security gates).
If you need a document that is on reserve, you can search for it in the Course Reserves. In the dropdown menu you can search by course name, by instructor name, by course code (prefix), and by department. When you have found the book you are looking for, give its call number at the person on duty at the Desk.
Reserve materials can be checked out for 3 hours. You can renew the loan for 3 extra hours, if no one else has requested the same item in the meantime.
Other collections may have different borrowing policies. For more information, see the Circulation policy.
The loan on any regularly circulating book can be renewed at the Welcome Desk or online by signing into the My Account section in JCU Discovery. After logging in, select "My Account" in the User Links dropdown menu in order to see all the books checked out under your name, and select the "Renew" button corresponding to the item you wish to renew.
Overdue books must be taken to the Welcome Desk for renewal.

All patrons are e-mailed a reminder notice before items become overdue. After the due date, other reminders are sent until the issue is taken care of. Further loans are not allowed until there are overdue items on a patron's account.
If an overdue notice for a book that has already been returned is received, the patron should contact the Library Staff in order to fix the issue.
Any accrued fee can be seen on My Account under the "Charges" tab, and the fine will continue to increase until the items are returned to the Welcome Desk.
Items should never be left unattended at the desk: it is the patron's responsibility to verify that the items returned are properly checked in.
If a book from the Main Collection is already checked out to another patron, a request on the item can be placed for it through the online catalog. If more than two borrowers request the same book, the library system will automatically shorten the loan period, which will never be less than 7 days anyway. Library users will receive an e-mail notification with the new date.
As soon as the book is returned it is placed on hold for 5 days for the person that requested it, who will be notified via e-mail. Pick-up is at the Welcome Desk.
Books on hold that remain unclaimed for more than 5 days will be reshelved, and the hold will be cancelled.
Items checked out can be recalled by the Library Staff if necessary. When a recall is placed, the regular loan will be shortened to 7 days, plus 7 other days to return the item. If the item is not returned on time, the student will be charged a €3.00 fine per day.
A book will be considered lost if it is not returned within 30 days after its due date.
When a book is lost, patrons will have to pay a replacement fee, in addition to a processing fee of €25.00.
If a book is lost, patrons must notify the Library Staff as soon as possible.
All patrons can request books and articles that are not owned by the Frohring Library by using the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services.

Seniors (with 90+ credits) and graduate students can check out up to 15 books at a time.

Overdue laptops generate a €3.00 fine per hour overdue to a maximum of €24.00.
In addition, unauthorized overnight loans will generate a fine of €25.00 per night to a maximum of €100.00.
The replacement fee for lost laptops is €400.00.

Seniors and graduate students can request books and articles that are not owned by the Frohring Library by using the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services. They can get up to 5 items as interlibrary loans (per semester) from Italian Libraries for free. For any request that exceeds the free ones, patrons will be required to pay shipment expenses and lending library fees, if any.

All Faculty members can access all Library services with their JCU ID card. They must always have their ID with them and show it at the Welcome Desk when checking out items.
The barcode printed on the JCU ID card allows users to access a personal Library account (My Account) where they can check books that have been checked out, books that have been requested and put on hold, and where they can renew loans.
Books can be checked out at the Welcome Desk. Faculty can borrow up to 30 items, Staff members can check out up to 6 books. Borrowing privileges depend on users' status and collection according to the following table:

Alumni can access the Frohring Library by showing their Alumni ID card at the Guarini Front Office. The ID card will guarantee on campus access to all Library facilities and resources. The remote (off-campus) use of all the electronic resources is not available.
Alumni can get access to the print collection of books and borrow up to 2 books at a time.

Courtesy Borrowers include members of the wider JCU community, as well as students who are part of the ENLUS program, of other university agreements and faculty-led programs.
By showing the ID card at the Guarini Front Office, courtesy borrowers can access the library facilities, services, and collections.
Borrowing is limited to 2 books from the Main Collection at a time for 14 days. Other collections may have different borrowing policies. For more information, see the Circulation page.

The Frohring Library is a private institution almost entirely funded by students' tuition, with a limited number of seats. Therefore, it is dedicated to serving the needs of the John Cabot University community: our students first and foremost, but also faculty, staff, alumni. Guests are welcome to use the facility and its resources, with some limitations. A first visit to the library is free, but must be arranged in advance by e-mail and take place preferably on a Friday. A photo ID is required to enter the premises. For further visits, guests must purchase a year-long pass for €200.00 or a 30-day pass for €50.00 (cash only).
The Library is not open to external users during Mid-Term and Final Exams in both Fall and Spring sessions. Days of restricted access will not count towards the 30-day total and the pass will be extended accordingly.
Access to the Library is granted during regular opening hours:
Guests are advised to check in advance the Library Opening Hours, which are also subject to changes during breaks and summer sessions.
Year-long and 30-day passes both include a JCU ID badge to access the premises (photo must be provided in advance by user), plus a wi-fi account to use with personal hand-held devices and library computers. Guests must show their badge at the Front Office, and stay in the Library area only. The Library reserves the right to refuse guest admittance in case of extreme overcrowding.

La Biblioteca Frohring è una istituzione privata, finanziata essenzialmente attraverso le rette degli studenti e con un numero limitato di posti a sedere. Di conseguenza è al servizio della comunità della John Cabot University; prima di tutto gli studenti e in secondo luogo i docenti, il personale e gli ex alunni.
Gli utenti esterni sono ovviamente i benvenuti, anche se nel loro caso valgono delle restrizioni. Il primo accesso alla biblioteca è gratuito, ma deve avvenire dietro appuntamento (via e-mail) e preferibilmente di venerdì. È obbligatorio un documento di identità con foto per accedere all'edificio. Per visite successive sarà necessario acquistare un permesso per un anno solare (€ 200) o per 30 giorni (€ 50).
L'utilizzo della biblioteca da parte degli utenti esterni non è consentito durante i periodi di esame (Extended Hours). Tali periodi non conteranno per l'utilizzo del permesso da 30 giorni, che verrà prorogato di conseguenza.

Gli utenti esterni saranno tenuti a mostrare il tesserino all'entrata del Campus e dovranno utilizzare soltanto gli spazi della biblioteca.

The Elisabetta Morani Center for Teaching and Learning was founded in 2022, based on a proposal by then Dean of Academic Affairs Carlos Dews.
