Professor Nicola Colacino joined JCU in 2026. After earning a degree in law, he completed a PhD in International Order and Human Rights. He is an Associate Professor of International Law at the Center of Advanced Defence Studies – University School (CASD-SSU) in Rome. He serves as Deputy Head of the Academic Department and Coordinator of the School’s Evaluation Unit. He is a member of the PhD Board in Defence and Security Sciences at CASD-SSU.
He is the Director of the second-level Postgraduate Programme in International Humanitarian Law and Military Operations and the Director of the Advanced Training Course in Fundamentals of International, European and National Law of Space Operations, both at CASD-SSU. He has been a visiting lecturer at several foreign universities, including Tampere, Brno, and Osijek.
He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Thematic Interest Group on International Environmental Law and Sustainable Development of the Italian Society of International Law and serves as Director of the Observatory Italy and the ECHR of the legal journal Ordine internazionale e diritti umani. He is also a member of editorial boards and acts as a referee for international law journals.
He is the author of numerous publications in the fields of international human rights law, United Nations law, the international law on the use of force, international environmental law, and the relationship between international law and domestic legal systems.
