Michele Riondino, who joined the Department of Political Science and International Affairs at John Cabot University in Fall 2024, teaches International Children’s Rights, Comparative Legal Systems, and Religious Law. Professor Riondino has held academic positions at leading international institutions in Europe and Australia. Prior to joining JCU, he was Full Professor of Canon Law and International Children’s Rights at the ACU Law School in Sydney, where he also served as the Inaugural Director of the Canon Law Centre. His academic career includes teaching and research appointments at the Lateran University and LUMSA University in Rome, the IADC—Gregorian University, KU Leuven, and UCAM in Murcia-Madrid. He was also a Visiting Scholar at Heythrop College, University of London. His scholarly expertise encompasses canon law, international children’s rights, and comparative legal systems. Professor Riondino has published extensively in internationally recognized legal journals and academic publications and is a regular speaker at major international conferences, academic institutions, and universities worldwide.
In parallel with his academic career, Professor Riondino has developed extensive experience in international legal consultancy and child-protection advocacy. He has acted as a legal advisor to public and private institutions, organizations, and associations in Italy, Australia, and the United States, providing specialist expertise in the fields of children’s rights and child protection. He also serves as an independent legal consultant, advising on legal audits and providing specialist counsel to international law firms on matters falling within his areas of expertise, in particular in Italy and Australia. His professional experience further includes serving as Head of the Children’s Rights Study and Research Centre at Telefono Azzurro Foundation in Rome.
Through his combined academic, advisory, and institutional work, Professor Riondino brings a distinctive international, comparative, and practice-oriented perspective to the study of law, religion, and children’s rights. Since the beginning of his academic career, he has supervised more than thirty Ph.D. theses in canon law and children’s rights.
