Bio

Kristjan Markovc is an economist, educator, researcher, and former competitive athlete whose life has been shaped by a strong commitment to learning, discipline, and international experience. Originally from Slovenia, his academic and professional journey has taken him across the United States, Japan, Belgium, and Italy, allowing him to develop a broad perspective both personally and professionally.

He earned a PhD in Economics and Finance from the University of Naples Federico II, following studies in economics, management, and finance at Tohoku University in Japan and the Florida Institute of Technology in the United States. His academic interests center on corporate finance, financial intermediation, capital markets, and the real-world effects of economic policy. Alongside research, he is deeply engaged in teaching and enjoys working with students across different educational and cultural environments.

Before pursuing an academic career, sport played an important role, including a national team and competing as an athlete while studying in the United States on a full athletic scholarship. Although no longer competing professionally, sport remains an important part of his lifestyle and identity.

Outside academia and sport, he is an enthusiastic reader who values curiosity and continuous personal development. He particularly enjoys exploring new ideas, cultures, and perspectives, reflecting the international character of both his career and his life.
