Bio

Professor John Muccigrosso joined JCU in 2025. He holds a BA in Classics and Chemistry from Amherst College, an MS in Chemistry from MIT, and a PhD in Classical Studies from the University of Michigan.

He first visited Rome as an undergraduate and has lived here full-time since 2022. His work revolves around the history and material culture of the ancient Roman world. Recent publications include work on the politics of the Middle Republic. He led an archaeological field school in Umbria from 2009 to 2017. In 2021, he was fortunate enough to discover a still-unpublished short inscription in the underground area of a Roman church.
