“Working in the Distraction Factory: Creativity, Commerce and Technological Change”
a Public Lecture by music video director, Robert Schober
The event will showcase the work of director Robert Schober. Mr. Schober will speak of the creative process behind music video production as well as the tensions between creativity and commercial considerations. Schober who has worked with both best-selling and mainstream rock acts (Metallica, Alice in Chains, The Killers, Deftones, My Chemical Romance) and more independent and cutting-edge acts (Mastodon, Devo, The Meat Puppets) is one of a handful of directors who are redefining the potential of the medium as they adapt and respond to the fast-paced industrial and technological transformations occurring in the media field. The work of these directors will necessarily impact the next generation of image makers in film, television, gaming and animation.
Schober will showcase examples of his work and share the inspiration and process behind the production of the images. Expect a presentation of inspiration folders, storyboards, a technology rundown as well as a reflection on the state of the music industry, media convergence, and the shifting approaches to media consumption and distribution. A Q&A will follow the screenings and presentation.
This is an event that anyone hoping to research or work in the media industries is encouraged to attend.
