Undergraduate Financial Aid Opportunities

As part of our commitment to provide an affordable university education for qualified and talented students, John Cabot University offers a variety of financial aid options for our new and current undergraduate students, including merit-based full and partial tuition scholarships, need-based financial assistance grants, tuition reduction grants for siblings and alumni, Federal Direct Student Loan programs, private loan programs and VA Education Benefits for Veterans/military families.

Students awarded financial aid will be notified after acceptance to JCU. JCU-funded scholarships/aid are awarded at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee. They apply to the regular academic year (Fall & Spring semesters) and are pro-rated according to registered credits for Summer Sessions unless otherwise noted. Scholarships and grants do not cover any personal expenses such as housing, travel, books, and other miscellaneous costs.

Scholarships 

Incoming Freshman & Transfer Students 

The Global Explorer Scholarship is a prestigious and competitive full tuition scholarship that is awarded to up to 3 exceptional students of the each entering fall class. The Global Explorer Scholarship is renewed annually provided the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress. This scholarship is not combinable with other JCU scholarships or discounts and does not apply to housing, meal plans, or personal expenses.

All students who have applied for one of JCU's merit-based scholarships are automatically considered for the Global Explorer award through an internal evaluation process. 

JCU Presidential Scholarships are partial tuition scholarships awarded primarily on the basis of academic achievement at the time of entry to the University. When awarding scholarships, JCU considers information provided during the Admissions process, such as: personal statement, letters of recommendation, SAT scores, IB scores, AP tests, A-levels, and extracurricular achievements. The maximum award amount is up to $9,500 (€7,000) annually.

Scholarships are initially awarded for one entire academic year and are renewed annually provided the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress at the end of each scholarship year.

Scholarship application deadlines are July 1 (Fall) and November 15 (Spring). Students should take into consideration that as the semester approaches, fewer scholarship funds may be available. Students may only receive one merit-based scholarship.

Students applying for the Presidential Scholarship must fill out the following Application.

One full tuition Presidential Transfer Scholarship will be awarded to an incoming Spring student. Scholarship application deadlines are July 1 (Fall) and November 15 (Spring). Students should take into consideration that as the semester approaches, fewer scholarship funds may be available. Students may only receive one merit-based scholarship.

Students applying for the Presidential Transfer Scholarship must fill out the following Application

JCU Presidential Transfer Scholarships are full and partial tuition scholarship awarded primarily on the basis of academic achievement at the time of entry to the University. When awarding scholarships, JCU considers information provided during the Admissions process, such as: personal statement, letters of recommendation, SAT scores, IB scores, AP tests, A-levels, and extracurricular achievements. Transfer applicants that have earned less than 45 credits at a previous university must also submit high school transcripts for review. The maximum award amount is up to $9,500 (€7,000) annually.

Scholarships are initially awarded for one entire academic year and are renewed annually provided the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress at the end of each scholarship year.

Students applying for the Presidential Transfer Scholarship must fill out the following Application.

The Italian Merit Scholarship provides financial aid for deserving Italian students with consideration of their academic merit, extracurricular activities and financial need.

The Expansion Scholarship is designed to increase ethnic and national diversity at the University and will be awarded to students who are citizens and residents of countries in South and Central America (including Mexico). To qualify for this scholarship, a student needs an incoming GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) and must have demonstrated leadership potential. The maximum award of the Expansion Scholarship is up to €8,000 annually.

Scholarships are initially awarded for one academic year and are renewed automatically provided the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress at the end of each scholarship year. 

Scholarship application deadlines are July 1 (Fall) and November 15 (Spring). Students should take into consideration that as the semester approaches, fewer scholarship funds may be available. Students may only receive one merit-based scholarship.

Eligible students must fill out the following Application

Marija Govedarica, '03 was a beautiful woman, friend, confidante, and inspiration to those who knew her. Her life was cruelly cut short in early July 2017 at barely 36. She was an example of what can be accomplished with unwavering passion and persistence, whether one aspires to be a scholar in a faraway country, a citizen, spiritually aware or brave beyond measure.

This memorial scholarship has been established in her name, to perpetuate her memory and to promote the study of International Affairs and Political Science.

The Marija Godaverica Memorial Scholarship is a need-based award. Applicants must be applying to JCU as a degree-seeking student pursuing an academic major in the area in International Affairs or Political Science and be a citizen and resident of Serbia, Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina, who maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Eligible students must fill out the following Application

JCU Assistance Grants may be provided to students who demonstrate a legitimate need for aid. The grant amount will be based on the official EFC (expected family contribution) as determined by the FAFSA for US students or on an ISEE for Italian students. Students from other countries are required to submit official tax documents translated into English that indicate annual family income. The amount awarded is up to $3,000 (€2,500) annually.

Assistance Grant application deadlines are July 1 (Fall) and November 15 (Spring). Students should take into consideration that as the semester approaches, fewer grant funds may be available.

Students applying for the JCU Assistance Grant must complete a separate application and submit it to their Admissions Counselor.

The Assistance Grant does not apply to summer sessions.

John Cabot offers tuition reduction grants to siblings of JCU students and alumni and children of JCU alumni.

John Cabot University is proud to announce that we have entered into an articulation agreement with Union County College located in Elizabeth, New Jersey, USA. The agreement provides seamless transfer for Union County College associate-degree graduates to begin studying John Cabot University. John Cabot University offers full tuition scholarships for one Union County College graduate every year.

UCC Scholarship Overview

  • One student per academic year

UCC Scholarship Requirements

  • Accepted to JCU in accordance with the JCU-UCC articulation agreement requirements
  • Application Deadline: March 1st, 2019
  • GPA Requirement: 3.0
  • Motivational Essay: "What sets you apart from other JCU applicants? How do you expect your JCU experience will advance your personal and professional growth?"

*Students who transfer to JCU through the JCU-UCC articulation agreement will be eligible to borrow only private loans, and not US Federal Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized, and PLUS loans. Please contact [email protected] for more information.

Returning Current Students 

The John Cabot University Dean's List Scholarship is awarded to current JCU students who have demonstrated excellent academic performance in their JCU studies by making the Dean's List. Student on the Dean's List have achieved a 3.50 grade point average in a semester of not fewer than 13 completed semester hours earned in a JCU program.

Eligibility and Award: In order to be eligible for the Dean’s List Scholarship a student must be on the Dean’s List. Students who are not receiving a JCU-funded merit-based scholarship (defined as those that are awarded primarily on prior academic achievement such as the Presidential, Expansion or Italian Merit Scholarships) will receive a semester award of $1,000 or €1,000 applied to their tuition, based on their currency of payment. As of Fall 2015, students who received a JCU-funded merit-based scholarship upon admission will receive an award of $200 or €200, based on their currency of payment.

The award will be applied towards the tuition of a regular semester (Fall or Spring) subsequent to their appointment to the Dean's List and does not apply to summer sessions. This award may be received more than once. Students who are dual enrolled at John Cabot University and Università degli Studi di Milano and not-matriculated students are not eligible to receive the JCU Dean’s List Scholarship.

JCU Assistance Grants may be provided to students who demonstrate a legitimate need for aid. John Cabot offers a sibling discount to the siblings of JCU students and alumni, and children of JCU alumni.

JCU Assistance Grant is combinable with JCU-funded scholarships and Sibling/Alumni Discounts. JCU-funded scholarships and Sibling/Alumni Discounts are, however not combinable. JCU merit-based scholarships are renewed annually provided a student maintains a minimum 2.67 cumulative GPA.

EXTERNAL SCHOLARSHIPS & RESOURCES

The Columbus Citizens Foundation's College Scholarship Program awards four-year scholarship that helps underwrite the cost of tuition. The scholarship provide generous assistance towards tuition but will not cover payment for all school costs.

This scholarship is open to you if you meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Students who are of Italian descent (at least 25% Italian)
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 (85% or B) or higher
  • Households total gross income does not exceed $25,000 per capita ($25,000 per person in the household)
  • Seniors in high school who will enter college as freshmen in Fall

The application deadline for the CCF Scholarship for Fall 2019 is Friday, February 15, 2019

Through the Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF), the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America (OSDIA) offers scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $25,000 every year.

The application deadline for the OSDIA Scholarships for Fall 2019 is Thursday, February 28, 2019.

OSDIA General Study Scholarship
U.S. citizens of Italian descent enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program or a graduate program at an accredited academic institution for the Fall 2019 term are eligible to apply for the General Study Scholarship.

OSDIA Henry Salvatori Scholarship for General Study
U.S. citizens of Italian descent in their senior year of high school and planning to attend an undergraduate program at a four-year, accredited academic institution for the Fall 2019 are eligible to apply for the Henry Salvatori Scholarship.

OSDIA Italian Language Scholarship
U.S. citizens of Italian descent in their junior or senior year of undergraduate study for the Fall 2019 term, majoring or minoring in Italian language studies at an accredited academic institution.
