Born in Florence, Italy, Prof. Siddu Pilia graduated from the University of Florence summa cum laude. Immediately after, she started teaching Italian Language at Società Dante Alighieri and collaborating with the publishing house Le Monnier as editor of Italian text-books for foreigners. In 1989, she obtained the position of archivist and researcher at Gabinetto Vieusseux, Florence, in the Contemporary Literature Department. In 1991, she moved to New York City as appointed by the Italian Cultural Institute. In the same period of time, she received the position of didactic director of Parliamo Italiano Language School, the largest Italian school in NYC, affiliated with Hunter College. She did curriculum development and assessment, and maintained contacts with the other Italian institutions in NYC. In 2001, she moved back to Italy and started teaching Italian at JCU. In 2007, she became Coordinator of the Italian Tutoring Center, which later became the Foreign Language Resource Center. She wrote a textbook for Elementary Italian 1 and 2, which is available on Moodle. Prof. Siddu Pilia obtained the ACTFUL (American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages) certification of foreign language assessment and is an official administrator for the CILS (Certification of Italian as a Second Language) exam.
