Summer Session Students

Depending on your passport, you may or may not need to request a short-stay student visa in order to enroll for summer sessions at JCU. Please check your visa requirement on the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website.

STUDENTS WHO DO NOT REQUIRE A VISA

If you hold a European Union country passport, or a passport from a country that is part of the Visa Waiver Program with Italy, you do not need to request a visa to study at JCU. You still need to register your presence in Italy by filing a Declaration of Presence with local authorities.

DECLARATION OF PRESENCE (NO VISA)

1. Send us a scanned copy of:

  • Your original passport;
  • A health insurance valid in Italy: please visit the JCU Health and Wellbeing page for information regarding the recommended coverage plan.

2. Register with Eduservices (a third party company that will process your declaration of presence application) and pay the request fee at the link provided through myOrientation.

The Immigration Services Office Staff will inform you when the receipt is ready to pick up in our office.

STUDENTS WHO REQUIRE A VISA

If your country is not part of the Visa Waiver program with Italy, you must apply for a short-stay study visa to legally enter Italy. Once you are accepted at JCU, the Admissions Office will provide the information and documents you need to apply for the visa.

If you need to apply for a visa, you must request it at the Italian Consulate with jurisdiction over your home state or city before you come to Italy. It is your responsibility to start the process, so make sure you do it as soon as possible, as the visa may take up to two months or longer to obtain.

Once you have obtained your visa, you will need to declare your presence to the local authorities by filing a Declaration of Presence.

CONTINUING EDUCATION FROM SUMMER TO FALL

If you are planning to continue your studies at John Cabot University after your summer session classes, you will need to inform the JCU Admissions Office at the time of your application. By law, you are required to obtain a long-term visa if you are planning on studying in Italy for more than 90 days.
