Italy Reads 2009 Archive (The Big Read Rome)
With the support of the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts, John Cabot University presented The Big Read Rome, a series of events that took place in October 2009 to encourage English language speakers in Rome to read and discuss Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
The grant is part of the NEA's effort to increase literacy by encouraging the reading of literature. John Cabot is the first American university abroad to receive such a grant. The Project Director for The Big Read Rome was Carlos Dews, Associate Professor of English and Chairperson of the Department of English Language and Literature.
The University was honored to welcome Charles J. Shields as keynote speaker.
