Massimo Betello is a Roman archeologist and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Classics at the University at Buffalo, NY.

He received his Laurea Magistrale in Classical Archaeology from the Università Ca’Foscari of Venice (Italy). He was then awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and decided to pursue a Ph.D. degree at Buffalo, where he has taught Latin, Introduction to Classical Archaeology, and World Civilizations. In 2009 he received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Graduate School.

He has worked and excavated extensively in Italy as a member of Italian, American and British missions, focusing especially on the ancient city of Pompeii, where he studied the architectural development of several small atrium houses.

He was selected by the European Erasmus Program for a student exchange at the University of Warwick (UK), and by the European Leonardo Program for a semester of work at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin).

He has developed an interested in GIS for research, and in the application of Google Earth, Maps and Sketchup for education purposes.
