William Pettit studied poetry and art at University of Pittsburgh (BA 1994) and received his Masters of Fine Art in painting from Tyler School of Art in 1996. He studied abroad in Rome as a graduate and undergraduate student.

Pettit has taught various courses at John Cabot University since 1999, including photography, drawing, figure drawing painting, landscape painting, watercolor painting, and fresco painting.

His poetry has been published in magazines since 1990, and his book "Ghost Songs" was published by Casagrande Press in 2009. His paintings have been shown in Philadelphia, Rome, and Paris.

He lives with his wife and two children in the countryside near Rome.
