Gene E. Ogle, who started teaching at JCU in 2002, holds a BA (Summa Cum Laude) in History from Texas Tech University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University of Pennsylvania. His research and teaching interests include colonization and transcultural relations in the early modern Atlantic World, slavery, racism, and the long term history of globalization. He is currently working on a book on race, violence, and honor in the eighteenth-century French colony of Saint Domingue (present-day Haiti).
