Rosa Filardi teaches Italian Language and Culture and Italian Theater Workshop at JCU. She is also a founder and co-organizer of the InVerse poetry festival. She taught at the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College in the USA.
She earned her laurea degree from the University of Bologna, Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, Department of Art, Music, and Theater (D.A.M.S) with a thesis on the Italian playwright Massimo Dursi. She has a graduate specialization certificate in Bodily and Expressive Mediation Pedagogy- DancemovementTherapy (APID), a three-year program accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education.
She worked as an actress for several years in the theater, in radio drama series for RAI television, and in dubbing companies. She also directed a number of plays, some of which she co-authored, and collected recently in a book. In June 2008 she was named a finalist for the Premio Fersen for her unpublished monologue Volo Verticale (“Vertical Flight”), which was subsequently published. The prize is sponsored by the publisher Editoria & Spettacolo with the aim of promoting contemporary Italian drama. Her recent studies and research focus on art as therapy, particularly in theater, dance, and creative writing.
She has been working for years with people with physical and mental disabilities. She is a member of “Compagnia della mia misura,” an integrated dance theater company in Rome dedicated to social inclusion through art and dance. The company produces performances, sponsors and participates in workshops and events, and organizes exchange programs with similar artistic groups in Italy and Europe.
