The Wales Program

In 2002, John Cabot University established a validation agreement with the University of Wales. Under this agreement, the University of Wales confers its degree on participating students who graduate from John Cabot with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, International Affairs or Political Science. In this way, students can earn a degree that is recognized in both the United States and in Europe.

Who is eligible to participate in the University of Wales validated programs?
You are eligible if you are proficient in English and will study Business Administration, International Affairs or Political Science at John Cabot for at least three years (approximately thirty courses or ninety credits).

Will I receive credit for my maturità and for courses I took at an Italian university?
The John Cabot degree program is normally a four-year course of study. Students with an Italian maturità are usually treated as if they had already completed one year of study. If you take a normal course load of five three-credit courses per semester, the John Cabot degree and the Wales degree can be obtained at the end of three years. In addition, John Cabot will award credit for courses completed in an Italian university, provided that the grade received is at least 24/30.

Is the degree awarded by the University of Wales separate from the John Cabot degree?
Yes, although you cannot obtain the Wales degree if you do not also obtain the John Cabot degree. At the end of the course of study, you are awarded the John Cabot degree and a separate degree from the University of Wales. The John Cabot graduation ceremony takes place in Rome in May of each year. The University of Wales ceremony takes place in Wales each November.

If I enroll at John Cabot University, will I automatically receive the Wales degree?
No, you must apply in order to participate, pay the fee, and help to ensure that all your written work is kept for review. Each year, examiners from the University of Wales travel to John Cabot and examine the work submitted by the candidates for the Wales degree. An independent assessment of the quality of students’ work is then made, and the University of Wales ultimately decides whether to confer its degree.

While John Cabot academic policies apply to all students, those participating in the University of Wales validated program are also subject to regulation by the University of Wales in areas such as academic complaints, academic honesty, and appeals procedures. Student Handbooks have been prepared to inform students about the regulations of both institutions.

Il Programma Wales

Nel 2002, la John Cabot University ha stabilito un accordo di certificazione dei corsi di laurea (validation of degrees) con la University of Wales (Università del Galles). Grazie a questo accordo, l’Università del Galles conferisce i suoi diplomi di Bachelor of Arts (honors) agli studenti della John Cabot che si laureano in Economia Aziendale, Relazioni Internazionali, e Scienze Politiche. Gli studenti che partecipano al programma Wales potranno perciò conseguire contemporaneamente sia un diploma di laurea americano che uno europeo.

Chi può partecipare ai programmi John Cabot University/Università del Galles?
Possono partecipare gli studenti con una buona conoscenza della lingua inglese e che studieranno presso la John Cabot University per almeno tre anni (circa 30 esami) per conseguire il Bachelor of Arts in Economia Aziendale, Relazioni Internazionali, e Scienze Politiche.

E possibile ricevere “crediti” per la maturità e per gli esami già sostenuti presso una università italiana?
I programmi della John Cabot University durano normalmente quattro anni. Gli studenti in possesso della Maturità italiana (ottenuta dopo cinque anni di scuola media superiore) vengono considerati come se avessero già completato il primo anno di studio universitario. Inoltre, la John Cabot accrediterà agli studenti gli esami che avranno superato presso una università italiana purchè il voto ottenuto sia almeno 24/30. Se gli studenti seguono cinque corsi per semestre, i Bachelor of Arts degrees della John Cabot University e della Università del Galles potranno esser conseguiti alla fine dei tre anni di corso.

Il Diploma di Laurea conferito dalla Università del Galles è separato dal diploma di Laurea conferito dalla John Cabot University?
Si, anche se gli studenti non possono ottenere il degree della Università del Galles senza aver prima ottenuto il degree della John Cabot University. Alla fine del corso, gli studenti ricevono sia il Bachelor of Arts degree della John Cabot University che l’Honors Degree della Università del Galles. La ceremonia di laurea della John Cabot si svolge a Roma nel mese di maggio, mentre la ceremonia di laurea dell’Università del Galles si svolge nel Galles a novembre.

Se mi iscrivo alla John Cabot University, riceverò automaticamente il degree dall’Università del Galles?
No, è necessario iscriversi al programma Wales. Gli elaborati (scritti) degli studenti della John Cabot University che partecipano al programma dell’Università del Galles vengono conservati per essere esaminati dai docenti di quest’ultima Università, i quali, ogni anno vengono a Roma per valutare in modo assolutamente indipendente il lavoro accademico svolto dai candidati. Sarà l’Università del Galles a decidere se conferire o meno ai candidati il Diploma di Laurea. Questo programma ha un costo aggiuntivo. Mentre i regolamenti accademici della John Cabot valgono per tutti gli studenti, chi partecipa al programma del Galles deve uniformarsi anche ai regolamenti accademici di questa università per quanto attiene ai reclami, all’onestà accademica, ed alle procedure di appello. Sono stati preparati appositi manuali per gli studenti per informarli dei regolamenti relativi ai due istituti universitari.
