For more than 250 years, this institution's mission has been to
develop intellectual growth in its students in an environment of
learning which stresses both the importance of individual honor
and integrity and the responsibility to serve society through
the productive use of one's talents and education.
The student
body hails from as many as 46 states and 29 foreign countries
with an enrollment near 1.775. About 14 percent of undergraduates
come from Virginia, with large numbers of students arriving from
Maryland, Texas, Georgia, New York and Pennsylvania. The Williams
School of Commerce, Economics, & Politics: the only nationally
ranked business school at a liberal arts institution, the Williams
School offers majors in Commerce Business Administration,
Business Administration and Accounting, Economics, Politics,
and Public Policy.
The academic life at Washington and Lee can
be challenging, but this does not hinder student involvement in
extracurricular activities. Student life at W&L is rich and
offers an exceptional number of options for involvement. At present
there are over 100 student groups.
