University of Portland, Portland, OR
Since 1901 the University of Portland has devoted itself to an
education of the heart and mind by focusing on three central
elements: teaching, faith, and service. Since the day it opened
in September 1901, the University has grown to a vibrant
intellectual community of more than 2,900 students and 240
professors.
Today the University is ranked among the top
10 schools in the West by U.S. News and World Report; boasts
some of the finest teachers in the country, including the
2000 outstanding professor of the year according to the
Carnegie Foundation; and prides itself on providing a
traditional, values-centered education that is attune to
the needs of every student. The University's reputation for
academic excellence is one of the reasons it is ranked among
the top 10 regional universities in the West, and that
translates into a degree of great worth--in economic
value, potential to change the world, and unimagined
possibilities that expand the hearts and minds of each of our
graduates.
When you choose to come to the University of Portland,
you're also choosing to live in one of the most vital urban
centers in the Pacific Northwest. The city has been
recognized as one of the 10 fittest cities by Men's Health,
one of the top 25 hot downtown destinations by Expo Magazine,
number one for safety and ease of getting around by Travel &
Leisure, and the most livable city in the United States by Money
Magazine--all with good reason.
Portland offers access to great
recreational activities, art and historical museums, dozens of
theaters and public gardens, and shopping. The city is also a
thriving environment for businesses and offers great
career opportunities. Famous local attractions include the
4,700-acre Forest Park (the largest urban park in the U.S.),
Saturday Market (an open-air food and craft market),
Powell's City of Books (the largest bookstore west of
the Mississippi) and TrailBlazers basketball.
