St. Mary's University, San Antonio, TX
Founded in 1852, when the members of the religious order founded in
France, the Society of Mary (Marianists), came to Texas to begin
the work of Catholic education in the Marianist tradition.
The
University is committed to that same mission today, adapting itself to
the challenges and needs of society today. More than 20 professors
are Fulbright Scholars or have received the Minnie Stevens Piper
Foundation “Piper Professor” award for dedication to
the teaching profession and outstanding academic, scientific and
scholarly achievement. St. Mary’s promotes a campus culture
of service and change in the community. The University was
selected by Campus Compact as one of the “Top 100 Colleges
with a Conscience,” specifically citing St. Mary’s
service learning and civic engagement efforts.
St. Mary’s is
ranked as one of the best universities in its region by U.S.
News & World Report, Hispanic Business magazine, Kaplan/Newsweek
College Guide and the Templeton Foundation.
