Guarini Institute Internship


The Guarini Institute for Public Affairs offers an internship every semester to a degree-seeking student, irrespective of major or minor, with a keen interest in public affairs, a GPA above 3.2 and a strong motivation for the job. The internship can be for-credit or not for-credit. Applications, with a cv and cover letter, must be submitted to Prof. Argentieri, director of the Institute, by June 30th for the fall semester and by Dec. 30th for the spring semester.

Job description

The Guarini internship normally begins on Sep. 10th  in the fall semester, ending Dec. 10th, and on January 25th in the spring semester, ending April 25th. One-credit requires 40 hours of work, 2-credits require 80-100 hours and 3-credits require 120-150 hours.

Tasks to be implemented by the intern include, among others:

1) Updating the external emailing list, in coordination with the director and the Executive Assistant to JCU's President;

2) Establishing permanent working contacts with JCU’s and other Rome Universities’ student governments, to notify them in advance of upcoming events;

3) Clarifying the procedure for the issuing of purchase orders for GIPA events, in harmony with all appropriate offices at JCU, so as to be able to help coordinate the suitable smooth functioning of events, including punctual compensation and/or reimbursement for speakers as proposed by the director and approved by JCU’s President;

4) Setting up appropriate reserve shelves in John Cabot University's Frohring Library in connection with particularly relevant events organized by GIPA, helping prepare students for full participation in each of them;

5) Maintaining contacts with members of the Advisory board;

6) Maintaining correspondence with speakers before and after events, particularly in connection with privacy issues and the posting of lecture/conference paper texts on JCU’s website;

7) Following the publication of lecture and conference proceedings, including text-editing, proof-reading, and similar activities;

8) Contributing with the director and the coordinator of publications and institutional communications to the designing and updating of a GIPA space on JCU’s website;

9) Contributing to the activity at large with comments, suggestions and by collecting feedback from external participants, JCU students, faculty and staff alike.
