Orientation

Each semester JCU hosts students from the United States, Italy and 40 other countries from around the world. Orientation is a fundamental and highly beneficial step towards a smooth transition into the University and to Rome. Students are welcomed by Student Affairs Staff and Student Ambassadors who guide them through the Orientation process and integrate them into the JCU community.

New students will attend a series of mandatory workshops, and will have the option of participating in tours of JCU, guided tours of Rome and of attending numerous events sponsored by the University and the Roman community. Students will receive an orientation folder containing necessary information about JCU and the city of Rome. Students can sign up for extracurricular activities such as soccer, hiking, yoga, sailing, wine tasting, Italian cooking classes, trips to Italian sites such as Pompeii, Florence, and Capri among others.

For more information on scheduling, please email studentservices@johncabot.edu

Orientation Week Overview

Mandatory Workshops
The Student Services Staff organizes these workshops for incoming students.  Student participation in these workshops is mandatory as students who attend are better prepared for their stay in Rome, and are acquainted with John Cabot premises and the services offered by the University and the local community. Students will receive the schedule of their personalized workshop prior to arrival.

In order to ensure a smooth transition to JCU, new students are required to attend the following mandatory workshops during orientation week:

Library Computer Lab
Be Safe in Rome When in Rome
Housing Permit to Stay

Students will be asked to sign a JCU Student Handbook Form acknowledging that they have read and understood JCU policies.
Upon arrival, students will receive a password to access the JCU Intranet where a detailed Student Lifebook can be downloaded. This booklet has been compiled by Student Services Staff and addresses frequently asked questions by students and is a useful guide to living in Rome.

Events and Activities
Arriving in the “Eternal City” generates a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm about JCU and Rome.  Student Services organizes different activities and events during this week for all new students, such as welcome dinners, pizza lunches, meet and greet events, weekend tours of the “The Fountains of Rome” and “Ancient Rome” and much more!  These are opportunities to meet fellow students and to begin a memorable and fruitful experience at JCU.
