Lecture: “Reporting on the Papacy”
Speaker: David Willey, Senior BBC Correspondent in Rome
Room: Aula Magna Regina

David Willey has been the BBC's Rome Correspondent for four decades and has reported on four different pontificates. During the quarter of a century that Pope John Paul II reigned in Rome, he was a frequent flier with the Pope aboard the papal charter plane, often conversing with the pontiff as they flew above the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans at 36,000 feet. He has continued to follow Pope Benedict XVI's less frenetic travels, and this year alone has been reporting on the Pope's visits to Malta, Portugal and Cyprus, having previously been with him on visits to Germany, Poland, the United States, the Middle East and - the world's most populous Catholic nation - Brazil.

David Willey is the author of God's Politician (Faber 1992), a critically acclaimed biography of Pope John Paul II. He was awarded the OBE by Queen Elizabeth in 2004 for his services to broadcast journalism.
