This mailing includes information on how to obtain your Student Visa, forms that you will need to fill out for the visa process, Life Roman Style Handbook with information regarding the Roman lifestyle and information you need for living in Rome, along with other helpful information relating to packing.

The Visa Packet includes:

The Visa Letter, which is addressed to the Italian Consulate stating
  • dates you will attend JCU
  • that your Health Insurance coverage is valid abroad or that, alternatively, you will purchase the Italian INA Health Insurance policy upon arrival. The Permit to Stay fee includes basic Italian emergency health insurance.
  • that you have a place to live while at JCU
  • that JCU considers you to have sufficient financial support for your time in Italy
If you are a EU resident you will not need a visa, but must provide proof of national or private health insurance once you are in Italy.

The affidavit of support, which is a letter you will sign in front of the Consul promising to buy Italian health insurance.

A proof of Health Insurance while abroad.

Ask your insurer if your coverage is valid in Italy. If it is, ask them to verify that in writing.

Show the Italian Consul proof that your policy is valid (if it is) when you apply for your visa. Some Italian Consulates keep lists of U.S. companies that offer coverage in Italy.

If your health coverage is valid, you MUST get a certified letter in Italian from the Consulate stating so(and bring it to JCU when you check in).

If your health coverage isn’t valid overseas JCU Student Services will help you buy the Italian INA emergency health policy once in Rome. JCU pays the cost for the INA policy for all visiting students.

Proof of Financial Support for tuition & living expenses while in Italy – this may be bank statements or other proofs (call ahead to the Consulate and ask).

Make sure you bring all letters you obtain from the Consulate to Rome!
