Once a year, in the Spring semester, the Career Services Center hosts its Career Fair, an event that brings together businesses, international and not-for-profit organizations, universities and students. On this occasion, juniors, seniors and recent graduates can start working on their future careers, identify job opportunities, put interviewing skills to the test and generally explore the world beyond JCU’s walls in a safe and supportive environment.
Discussion panels, presentations, lectures, coffee breaks and one-on-one discussions are followed by job/internship interviews. It is a wonderful chance for students to expand their professional network, showcase their achievements and learn about job market opportunities.
Prior to the event, special briefing sessions will be organized to allow students to sign up for interviews, submit CVs/resumes and cover letters, polish their interviewing skills and ask any questions they may have. Participation in the briefings is a prerequisite for the interviews.

The Career Fair is the final part of the Spring Workshop series, and while it focuses on job opportunities for graduating students, it is also a good time for juniors and seniors to interview for Summer and Fall internships. The opportunities are highly competitive and participating students must have both a strong academic record and demonstrable non academic experience. Visiting students who are serious about their careers can also take part.
Last year’s Career Fair Workshops and Career Fair Day ran from April 4th to April 15th and included the following workshops and activities:
• April 4 & April 5 - Career Fair Briefing (in preparation for participating in the Career Fair)
• April 6 – CV review for all students participating in the Career Fair
• April 7 – Interviewing Techniques (the last chance to find out how to handle the upcoming interviews)
• April 14 – Alumni Panel (meeting JCU Alumni and hearing their experiences, advice and at times job or internship offers)
• April 15 – AM – Organizations, Businesses, NGO’s presentations – so students have a clear idea of each organization’s activities, philosophy and profiles of an ideal intern or employee. This year such organizations included APCO Worldwide, IBM Italia, MACRO (largest contemporary art museum in Rome), the Office of the Prime Minister, the US Consulate in Naples and the US Embassy.
• April 15 – PM - Representatives of the participating Organizations interviewed interested students. Students had the opportunity of interviewing with a maximum of 4 or 5 organizations.
• April 15 – PM: Graduate School fair, which saw representatives from leading Italian universities, such as LUISS Guido Carli, Roma Tre and Tor Vergata, as well as foreign institutions such as St. John’s University , Glion Institute of Higher Education, and Franklin College, Switzerland.
Following the Career Fair, the CSC team was busy sending CV’s of interested students to approximately 50 Organizations that were not able to attend but were interested in reviewing prospective interns or employees.
The list of internships available in the summer sessions and the Fall 2011 semester can be found on the Intranet under the “Student” section. This is a searchable data base which students can search using a variety of criteria.
