Frequently Asked Questions by Parents

1. How will my son or daughter benefit from attending John Cabot University in Rome?

One of best things about a John Cabot University education is our location in Rome, Italy, a city of unparalleled cultural wealth and international significance.

We take full advantage of Rome’s resources by incorporating Roman, Italian and European sites, history, literature and politics into our highly regarded liberal arts curriculum.

JCU also employs a multinational faculty who enrich classes with their wide-ranging perspectives and global worldviews. JCU faculty selection is also based on their dedication to teaching as well as concern for the personal growth of our students. Finally, Rome offers countless opportunities for enhancing students’ educations outside the classroom through study excursions, volunteering, and internships with multinational companies, international organizations, government offices, and cultural institutions.

2. What can my son or daughter expect after graduating from John Cabot University?

4. How will my son or daughter find a place to live in Rome?

John Cabot University offers a Housing Placement Service. For new students who complete the Housing Request Form in the application packet, the Housing Department will secure housing and move the student in upon arrival.

Because public transportation in Rome is so efficient, no apartment is more than a short metro or bus ride away from JCU and most are within walking distance. A housing deposit is required to secure the facilities and will be credited to the first month’s rental expense.

5. Is Rome a safe city?

Rome is a large world center, however, it is very safe compared to many American cities. Students receive information on living in Rome that guides them in their daily lives and are advised to undertaken the same precautions they would take at any US university. The Student Services staff is always available to answer any questions about staying safe in the city. Click here for important information about student safety. A 24/7 Emergency Phone service is available to all JCU students.

6. Does JCU offer a meal plan?

Yes. All enrolled students can enjoy our 15-week “As the Romans Do” Meal Plan every semester. The plan provides breakfast and lunch five days a week through meal vouchers that you redeem at selected restaurants and cafes around campus. Full details and application are available here.

Fresh food markets are also plentiful near JCU and many of our students become excellent cooks while studying here. We also offer cooking classes so students can learn to cook all’italiana.

7. Where can a student receive mail and packages?

Every student is assigned a mailbox on campus where only letters may be received; no packages are to be mailed to the university address.

To send and receive packages, we suggest using a shipping company, such as Futura Forwarders. You will make all the necessary arrangements for delivery directly with the company.

8. What medical facilities are available to students?

The Italian National Health system provides Italians and foreign nationals alike with free emergency treatment in public hospitals and associated clinic.
The Student Services staff is available to help students arrange medical care and appointments with English-speaking doctors and specialists. Plus John Cabot University has two professional psychologists, who provide counseling services to students having difficulty adjusting or other personal problems. Does your student take a medication? We advise students who take medications to bring enough with them for the duration of their studies; Italy does not allow shipments of medication from non-European Union countries.
